Lanky Kong

Lanky Kong is a fictional character in the Donkey Kong series of video games, and is one of the main playable characters in the 1999 Nintendo 64 game, Donkey Kong 64. His representative colour throughout the game is blue and he first appears in the Angry Aztec level, locked inside a cage. It is Donkey Kong himself who must rescue him using his Coconut Cannon.
Background
Personality
Lanky Kong is an orangutan who wears suspenders, and a comrade and relative (though this is questionable) who aids Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Tiny Kong, and Chunky Kong in their mission to defeat King K. Rool and his Kremling army. Lanky Kong has stretchable limbs that are helpful for the DK Crew. He is a clown, who, with Cranky's help, can inflate himself just like a balloon, and stretch his arms out, just for you. He is also able to walk on his hands in a handstand, or orangstand, and climb the steepest hills. A further ability enables him to run exceedingly fast on his long arms while using up Crystal Coconuts. He is as enigmatic as he is amusing, and apparently even the other Kongs know very little about him. His extremely long arms do however make him extremely good at playing the trombone. In his final fight with King K. Rool, Lanky Kong uses banana peels to trip up the Kremling king. This method, and many of his other techniques he uses, further the image of his 'wacky clown' persona. He wears a bright red nose and striking orange fur. Lanky's major boss fight in the game is in the Gloomy Galleon level, with an overgrown Puftup, named Puftoss, who he must defeat by piloting a tiny motorboat through DK stars within a restrictive time limit until enough lightning rods rise in order to complete a circuit and electrocute Puftoss. Once this has been done five times, the boss is deafeated and yields the fourth key to K. Lumsy's cage.
Story
Originally, Lanky met Dixie Kong and her toddler cousin Kiddy Kong in the Northern Kremisphere three years before the events of Donkey Kong 64, in the Donkey Kong Country 3 GBA revision. At this point, he was not willing to join the protagonists in their quest to rescue Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, though he did appear in one of Funky Kong's minigames. It is unclear whether he originally resided with the other Kongs on DK Isles, or if he is, as is suggested, a stranger who has become a close friend of the family.
In one of King K. Rool's attempt to steal the Banana Hoard (which is stored in DK Isles), he captured four of Donkey Kong's friends and sealed off the areas which DK would need their help to reach. He did this in order to make time to prepare the Blast-o-Matic for fire on DK Isles, which was to be totally destroyed. Once freed, Lanky was able to free Chunky Kong and join the other Kongs in order to defeat King K. Rool.
Appearances
Kong Family Relations
As an orangutan, Lanky Kong's relationship to the Kong family is unknown. However, this is not as urgently inexplicable as it may seem, since Diddy Kong (as well as many other members of the family) is a monkey and not a gorilla as the majority of the Kong family seem to be. See Kong family enigmas for details. All of the Kong family members are non-human simians of some description, and as fictional video games, the series offers little explanation for this. Lanky is described as a good friend in Donkey Kong 64, though it has been pointed out by some that he vaguely resembles an enemy from the 1994 SNES title Donkey Kong Country, known as Manky Kong. This is unconfirmed by Rareware, and unreferenced by Nintendo. It is not considered official canon.
Techniques
Throughout the course of the game, in order to reach more Golden Bananas, Lanky can purchase potions and upgrades (among other things) for blue coins from Cranky Kong, Funky Kong and Candy Kong. In addition to these techniques and weapons, Funky will offer varying upgrades to Lanky's Grape Shooter - increasing its normal ammunition capacity from 50 grapes to 200, and introducing Homing Grapes. Candy can also increase the amount of times which Lanky may play the Trombone. Both characters will fill up Lanky's respective gauges if he's low on supplies when he reaches them.
DK Rap Verse
He has no style, he has no graceThis Kong has a funny face
He can handstand when he needs to
And stretch his arms out, just for you.
Inflate himself, just like a balloon
This crazy Kong just digs this tune.
