Laponia

Encyclopedia : L : LA : LAP : Laponia

right Laponia (Swedish: Lappland) was a historical Swedish province, or landskap, in the north of Sweden-Finland. In 1809 the eastern part was ceded by Russia, which in effect created a Swedish Lapland and Finnish Lapland. Today the Swedish province serves no administrative purpose, but the Finnish still does (part of modern Finnish Lapland however includes areas outside of the original Laponia area).
