Larry Langford

Encyclopedia : L : LA : LAR : Larry Langford

Larry Langford is the former mayor of Fairfield, Alabama. As of 2006, he is the president of the Jefferson County, Alabama Commission.

Langford is largely responsible and best known for raising money and generating public interest and support for Visionland Theme Park (now known as Alabama Adventure Theme Park), located near Bessemer, Alabama. The park was built largely by funding from and bond issues backed by a consortium of cities in the western part of the county, as well as the city of Birmingham and the county government. The park declared bankruptucy, but was sold to Southland Entertainment Group, and has rebounded and expanded since.

Before his career in politics, Langford was a reporter for WBRC (Fox 6), and later a public relations person for a Birmingham beer distributor.

Another Larry Langford in Chicago, Illinois is currently the spokesperson for the Chicago Fire Department, and a former crime beat reporter for WMAQ-AM (670) during the station's all news format from 1988-2000 before that station's conversion to sports radio WSCR. He then hosted a weeknight program with WMAQ's former political editor Bill Cameron on WLS-AM (890) from 2000-2003.
