Last common ancestor

Encyclopedia : L : LA : LAS : Last common ancestor

The Last Common Ancestor (or Latest Common Ancestor) is the ancient and probably unknown person who is included in the genealogy of all living human beings. Steve Olson, author of [i]Mapping Human History[link] (2002), maintains that the Latest Common Ancestor is no more than 2000 to 5000 years in the past. He further claims that all human beings share a common pool of ancestors at no more than 7000 years in the past. (Reference: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060701/ap_on_sc/brotherhood_of_man)
