League of Conservation Voters
Encyclopedia : L : LE : LEA : League of Conservation Voters
The League of Conservation Voters is a nonpartisan American environmentalist lobby. According to their website,
The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) is the political voice of the national environmental movement and the only organization devoted full-time to shaping a pro-environment Congress and White House.
The League publishes the National Environmental Scorecard to aid voters in their decisions. In addition to tracking voting records and endorsing or opposing candidates, the group contributes to and participates in political campaigns and election campaigns.
The League's National Environmental Scorecard is the best known congressional environmental scorecard but is not the only one; others are published by, for example, the American Wilderness Coalition [link] and Defenders of Wildlife[link].
In the 2004 Democratic primary, the League endorsed John Kerry early in the primary season. They are strongly opposed to many of the environmental policies of George W. Bush.
