History
Before Tekken - Tekken
Lee Chaolan is Kazuya Mishima's foster brother who was discovered by Heihachi Mishima on one of his many travels. He was fighting with some other kids and Heihachi, impressed by his natural ability, decided to adopt him. Before the events of the original Tekken, Heihachi sent Lee to the U.S. to handle the Mishima Zaibatsu's operations over there. While Heihachi trained Kazuya in the art of Mishima Karate, Lee studied under Paul Phoenix and Marshall Law in the U.S. This is the reason for some of the moves that Lee shares with Paul and Law.

Tekken 2 - Tekken 3
After the 2nd King of the Iron Fist Tournament Lee was disowned by Heihachi over Lee's deciding to side with Kazuya and left the Mishima Zaibatsu. Ultimately he went into seclusion in the Bahamas and became a businessman.

Tekken 4
Returning in the 4th tournament, Lee runs a successful robotics company and lives in the Bahamas. One day he realizes that G-Corporation, which he holds stock in, has a big sell off and finds that the Mishima Zaibatsu was behind it. Days later the 4th Iron Fist tournament was announced and Lee decides to enter the tournament. To take precaution that the Zaibatsu would not figure out his identity, he enters online under the name "Violet" and dyes his silver hair purple. Towards the end of the tournament he is defeated by Kazuya.Tekken 5
Lee enters the 5th Tournament eager for ultimate revenge on Kazuya, because he believes that Kazuya is the one who secretly took over the Mishima Zaibatsu after Heihachi had "died" while he tried to scheme to overtake it.Trivia
- Lee Chaolan is voiced by Ryoutarou Okiayu in Tekken 5.
- Lee infiltrated the King of Iron Fist 4 under the guise of Violet.
- The name Lee Chaolan has the same pronuanciation and phonetic sound like Bruce Lee screen name in Chinese & Cantonese (His screen name is Lee Siu Lung).
- Lee Chaolan is another of Namco's characters who is fighting art simply stated as 'Martial Arts' in its canon which is a generic term that does not help to define what style he actually practices. His fighting movements in-game are also hard to define, as of his many kicks and punches are not be associated with any specific martial art and many are animations that have carried over from Tekken 2. Many of his kicks and punches appear most similar to a stylised combination of Wushu, Tae Kwon Do and Jeet Kune Do.
- His ending in Tekken 5 shows Lee relaxing poolside after winning the tournament. He apparently took control of the Mishima Zaibatsu, and demoted Heihachi to a mere waiter (wearing a thong). After taking Lee's order ("Two fingers"), Heihachi walks off, grumbling at Lee under his breath. Lee then threatens to detonate the bomb built into Heihachi's bowtie, which quickly cowls Heihachi back into servitude. Much like Law's ending in the same game, it does not feature Jinpachi's death, and is also regarded as funny by the fans.
