Leo I group is a group of galaxies about 35 million light-years away in the constellation Leo. The Leo I group is separated into two subgroups, the M96 subgroup and the M66 subgroup. This group has about 20 galaxies (5 messier objects) which harbors the famous Leo Triplett.
Subgroups
M66 subgroup
The
M66 subgroup (
Messier 66 subgroup) is in the west part of the Leo I group. This subgroup contains only five galaxies, two
messier objects. Three of these galaxies are aligned as a
triangle which is called the
Leo Triplett, with the main galaxy of the subgroup,
M66.
M96 subgroup
The
M96 subgroup (
Messier 96 subgroup) makes up the east part of the Leo I group. Making up most of the galaxies in the group. This subgroup contains fifteen galaxies, three messier objects. The main galaxy in this subgroup is
M96.
