Leon High School was originally founded as Leon Academies in 1831 in Tallahassee, Florida, Leon County. This would later become Leon County High School in 1903. It was called Leon County High and Graded Schools, originally set up for the county whites. Its original location was on the corner of Duval, Tennessee, and Bronough Streets.
In 1911, the school was relocated to where the LeRoy Collins Public Library now stands.
The current building was built in 1937 with use of the WPA. Located at 550 East Tennessee Street, it was considered being too far out of town. The final cost for the building was $500,000. After it was built it was believed to be too large for the area.
Since then city has grown around the school and it is located in the heart of downtown Tallahassee.
