Lepani Sigatolu was born on October 20, 1935 in Naroi, Moala, Lau Islands, Fiji. He was the son of Isimeli Waqa and Leba. He was bought up on the island of Lakeba, in the Lau Group, until he was a teenager and finally went back to Moala. He married Unaisi, who hails from Matuku in the Yasayasa Moala group of islands. He has five children, 4 girls and 1 son: Baravi, Jiu, Nainasa, Rusila and Isimeli. He has 10 grandchildren, between the ages of 2-24.

Lepani Sigatolu is well known is the province of Lau for his work involving the Lau province from the 1970s to the late 1990s. He was district officer of the Yasayasa Moala group. He has represented the Tikina Ko Moala in the Lau Provincial Council Meetings. He has currently retired and resides in the village of Naroi, on the island of Moala. His hobbies including planting and fishing.
