"Let's Wait Awhile" is the fifth single from Janet Jackson's third album Control. Released in 1987, the single peaked at #2 in the USA becoming Jackson's fifth Top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100; it also hit #1 on the R&B singles chart becoming her fourth to top that chart. Co-written with Melanie Andrews, Jackson talked of waiting until the right moment to make love "the right way". It can also be as a song dedicating abstinence. It was a precursor to the more sexually-liberated Jackson that was to emerge more than five years later.
