Lewis was a one-off TV drama made by ITV and shown on British television on 29 January 2006. A spin-off from the successful Inspector Morse series, with Kevin Whately reprising his character of Morse's sidekick Lewis, the drama was written by Stephen Churchett, with Morse creator Colin Dexter in a consultants role.
It was announced by ITV that the pilot would be turned into a series of four two-hour episodes, due to overwhelming viewing figures for the pilot, in the area of 11.6 million (46% of the audience share). ITV aim to shoot the series in the summer and have it out before the end of the year.
