Facts

Lexington High school has a Student/Faculty Senate that allows students to have power in what policies are held in the school. This Senate also has five seats open for students to represent under-represented groups. So far only one group, the high school's gay/straight alliance, has ever elected a representative to fill one of these seats.

The cross country team has been undefeated from 2000 until the present.

Recently rated the 304'th best high school in the country by Newsweek.

In 2005 Fred Phelps, of godhatesfags.com, and his church protested the Lexington High School graduation because of the school's support of its gay straight alliance.

Policy Debate Lexington High School's policy debate team has won the State Championship for the last 30 years.

Day of Silence

There were also 2 protesters outside the school on the Day of Silence in 2005 who were never identified.

Several students counter-protested silently until the adult protesters left. Besides the protestors outside the school, the day also encountered opposition within the student population. Stickers saying, "The way it's meant to be," and featuring images of a man and a woman holding hands were distributed by the mother of a freshman student. Approximately a dozen students wore the protest stickers. The oppostion was unexpected because in previous years there had been little to no public opposition to the day at Lexington High School. The Day of Silence on April 24th 2006 went off without any protestors against the day of silence or the gay-straight alliance. At least three police officers were stationed on the LHS quad for the day of silence.
