Encyclopedia : L : LH : LHE : Lhermitte's sign

Lhermitte's Sign is an electrical sensation that runs down the back and into the legs, and is produced by bending the neck forward. It can be caused by a number of conditions, including multiple sclerosis, conditions that cause compression of the spinal cord in the neck (cervical spondylosis, cervical disc herniation, cervical spinal cord tumor, Chiari I malformation), as well as radiation myelopathy, and subacute combined degeneration (caused by vitamin B12 deficiency)

Localizes to the dorsal columns of the rostral cervical cord, which convey fine touch and proprioception, or the nucleus gracilis and cuneatus in the caudal medulla.
