Liberty Jail is a prison in Liberty, Missouri, USA, where Joseph Smith, Jr. and several of his associates were incarcerated from November 20, 1838 to April 9, 1839. Sections 121, 122, and 123 of the Doctrine and Covenants were recorded while Joseph was being held there. A museum/Visitor's Center chronicling the Prophet's internment now stands on the site of the old jail.
Among the many significant events that occurred in Liberty Jail, Joseph F. Smith, the newborn son of prisoner Hyrum Smith, was named and blessed by his father in custody.
