Lighting efficiency

Lighting efficiency is a measure of how much visible light is given off from a light source per unit of energy. It is measured in lumens per watt (lumens/watt). Energy not converted into visible light is radiated as heat, or at the ends of the visible spectrum as ultraviolet or infrared.
- 005 lumens/watt Incandescent tungsten filament at 7 watts (night light)
- 010 lumens/watt Incandescent tungsten filament at 100 watts (room light)
- 020 lumens/watt Incandescent halogen at 100 watts (T3)
- 045 lumens/watt Light-emitting diode at 1 watt (white)
- 022 lumens/watt Light-emitting diode at 3 & 5 watts (white)
- 065 lumens/watt Light-emitting diode at 3 watts (red-orange)
- 050 lumens/watt Fluorescent
- 060 lumens/watt Fluorescent at 32 watts (F40T12) cool white
- 070 lumens/watt Fluorescent at 32 watts (T8)
- 150 lumens/watt Sodium vapor lamp low pressure
