Lightolier is a company that manufactures and sells a wide array of lighting fixtures. It was founded in 1904 by Bernhard Blitzer under the name of New York Gas and Appliance Co. When electric lighting started to be more widely accepted, the name was changed to Lightolier, a contraction of the words light and chandolier (a commercial spelling variant of chandelier). Lightolier is the largest division of the [Genlyte Group].
Lightolier is known for making advances in the lighting industry, including the invention of Track Lighting in the 1960s, Low Cost recessed lighting ([aka Lytening]), and new innovative product lines like Alcyon (track lighting) and Calculite 3" Evolution (specification grade downlighting).
