Background and role in the series
Very little is known about Lilith's background. A remarkably unemotional and restrained woman, her hair always tightly pulled back in a severe bun, she has extremely pale skin and a monotonous voice, and dresses exclusively in drab, conservative clothing. Her name may be a humorous reference to the female demon Lilith from ancient Hebrew and Mesopotamian accounts. This is fitting since the character is Jewish. A recurring joke is that beneath the cold exterior simmers a wild, passionate sexual appetite that bursts out on occasion.She first appears in the fourth season of Cheers, where she falls in love with and marries fellow psychiatrist Frasier Crane, becoming Dr. Lilith Sternin-Crane. Lilith and Frasier have a son, Frederick Crane. She is involved in research.
Lilith has an affair with a coworker. She leaves with him, but returns later. After a short reconciliation, she and Frasier divorce, with Lilith gaining full custody of Frederick. When Frasier moves to Seattle (at the beginning of Frasier), she and Frederick remain in Boston, but Frasier and Lilith continue to have a cordial relationship.
Lilith appears on Frasier several times, as does Frederick. In one episode she attempts to seduce Frasier but ends up sleeping with his brother, Niles Crane. Subsequently she remarries, but her husband leaves her for another man.
