Liquified Natural Gas

Encyclopedia : L : LI : LIQ : Liquified Natural Gas

Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) is natural gas cooled to a temperature of approximately -260°F (approx -160°C) at atmospheric pressure. LNG is odorless, colorless and non-corrosive. When it is vaporized it can be used in a variety of heating and industrial processes.

Natural gas is composed primarily of methane, but prior to processing may also contain ethane, propane, butane and other, heavier hydrocarbons.

Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) should not be confused with Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) or Natural Gas Liquids (NGL).
