Playable characters
Ryu
Ryu is the protagonist of Breath of Fire II.
Ryu is named after and descended from the protagonist of Breath of Fire, and, like his ancestor, he is a hereditary member of the legendary dragon clan, inheriting the ability to transform into a dragon from his mother, Valerie.
Overview
At the beginning of Breath of Fire II, Ryu is a six-year-old boy, mourning, along with his sister, the apparent death of his mother. Things take a turn, however, when his father's stories of Ryu's mother are interrupted by Ryu collapsing and experiencing a strange vision. When Ryu awakes, his father and sister are gone, and no one in his home town of Gate recognizes him any more. His home is occupied by an unknown priest, who takes him in for the night.
Ryu is awoken by another boy, Bow, attempting to rob the church. Despite the fact that Ryu interrupts Bow's burglary, the two form a fast friendship, and leave the church and the town, seeking shelter in a nearby cave. Their shelter turns out to be much less safe than they expected, and they are attacked by a demon named Barubary.
Ten years pass, and Ryu and Bow are now rangers in their new home town of Hometown. They receive orders that they are to find a missing pet of a visiting princess named Mina (Nina's younger sister). They cross a nearby mountain range and find the pet about to be eaten by a hungry old man. From here their quest snowballs as Bow is accused of theft, Ryu encounters new companions and they all team up to uncover the truth of the St. Eva's church, which is really a cult whose leaders are a group of demons and worships a God named Evans.
During his journey, Ryu also encounters Ray Bradoc, who is a good man that works for the Church of St. Eva. They become fast friends when Ryu helps him save a bunch of villagers. However when Ryu reaches the Grand Church at Evrai, he is forced to battle Ryu and reveals that he is also a member of the Dragon Clan and a descendant of the Dark Dragons. Ray unleashes his most powerful attack so inorder to awaken Ryu's most powerful Dragon form. Ray states that he knew that St. Eva's church was evil but he was found and raised by the church ever since he was an orphan and he owed them. He tells Ryu that inorder to unleash Ryu's true power, he must be opposed by someone with equal power, that is why he decided to battle Ryu. With his dying breath, he urges Ryu to stop stop St. Evrai and told him that he always was and will be on Ryu's side.
As Ryu battled his way through he Grand Church, he finds an old man encased in a machine that is sending his life force to Evans. Ryu saves the old man and realizes that it was Ganer, his father. He was captured by demons 10 years ago and his fellow villager's memories were wiped out that is why no one remembered him. When the seal at Gate was broken once again, Ryu discovers that the Dragon guarding the gat was his mother Valerie all along. He decides to lift the burden of guarding the seal from her shoulders and enter Infinity to destroy Deathevan. Nearing the end of the game, things come full circle for Ryu, as he learns the truth about the Dragon Clan and his mother's mission and his place in the demon's grand scheme in breaking the seal. When he finally confronts Barubary, the one who has plagued his nightmares for the last ten years, Barubary revealed that the only reason he let Ryu live after their first encounter so many years ago was that he had always intended for Ryu to be the one to break the seal and set all the demons free. Ryu however defeats Barubary and he congrtualtes Ryu and tells him that perhaps he was wrong and that Ryu did have what it takes to defeat Deathevan.
Ryu meets Evans who kills his friends in front of him as Ryu stood there powerless. Ryu then charges at Evans and gashes him on the face. Evans transforms into Deathevan and prepares to battle Ryu, but before Ryu uses the power of Anfini and brings his friends to life who rushes to battle by his side. After defeating Deathevan, Ryu realizes that Deathevan was not truly destroyed, but merely resting and gathering more strength for it's next attack. Ryu's ending depends on whether you have fulfilled certain conditions in the game. If you did not get TownShip to fly, Ryu fulfills his destiny and transforms into a dragon and and becomes the new guardian for the seal into Infinity. He goes into a deep sleep as his friends weep for lost of Ryu. However, if you did get the TownShip to fly, Ganer intervenes and crashes the Town Ship into the Gate of Infinity, sealing it. He tells Ryu that he shouldn't worry about the demons as he will be the one to stand guard until the next Fatal Child is born and urges Ryu and his compatriots to spread their beliefs across the world so that Deathevan may never rise again.
In Combat
In gameplay, Ryu is a well-balanced leader of the party, typical of protagonists of Japanese console role-playing games. While he lacks the Shaman fusions of his companions, he has the ability to transform into one of several dragons and make a single, powerful attack. (Unlike other Breath of Fire games, he only makes a single attack when he transforms, instead of staying in dragon form.)
Skills
Fishing
When traveling on the world map, occasionally Ryu will be able to find a fishing spot. Ryu can equip a rod and a lure to catch fish, and even Manilloes who will sell some very useful (but expensive) items. Later when he gets his Charm Rod, he can use it to fish out treasure chests, some of which contains the most powerful equipment in the game.
Dragon Forms
Ryu's dragon power is first released when he attempts to fuse with Sana, the Fire Shaman. However the process failed and accidentally released Ryu's first dragon form is the Puppy which has three elemental properties (fire, ice and thunder). His second form, simply called Dragon is granted to him by an old Dragon Clansman hiding behind a waterfall. This form also comes with three elemental properties, just like the puppy. His most powerful form is called the Gold Dragon (Kaiser in the Japanese version) and is released by Ray when he confornts Ryu in his Dark Dragon form. His final Dragon Spell is called Afini (Infinity in the Japanese version) and can only be used in the final battle against Deathevan.
Bow
Bow is Ryu's courageous and loyal best friend and a petty thief.
Overview
Bow's past is never truly revealed. He meets Ryu at the age of six while staying at a church. Ryu's family has recently disappeared, and he suggests that the two of them stick together since they have no one else to turn to. Bow distrusts the church and, after looting the room he's in, talks Ryu into running away with him. They travel only a short distance before it begins raining and they are forced to take shelter in a nearby cave. While exploring the cave, they are attacked by the demon Barubary and the game fades out; when it resumes we are told that ten years have passed.
Ryu and Bow are still friends and work together as rangers in Hometown. The town elder offers them the assignment of finding a girl's lost pet and they accept. The mission ends with them rescuing a pig from a hungry old man named Niro, who was about to eat it. They return to Hometown and are thanked by the pig's owner, who is a pretty young woman named Mina, whose older sister, Nina, will later join them on their quest. That night, as Ryu is sleeping, Bow accepts an assignment from a shady character named Kilgore in hopes of earning some quick cash. Ryu wakes up in the middle of the night to discovering Bow missing; he talks to Kilgore and finds that Bow is wanted because of the robbery Kilgore had him commit. After finding Bow, it is revealed that before he could do the job, another thief had looted the place. Ryu sneaks Bow out of the town by having him hide in a trash can and the two of them try to think of a place for Bow to hide, eventually deciding to return to Niro's. After hearing their predicament (Kilgore had tricked Bow into stealing for him, claiming the treasure had originally been stolen from him and that returning it to its rightful owner wouldn't really be a crime) agrees to let Bow stay if he will help fix up his house. Bow readily agrees. These events start the game's first major objective, finding the real thief.
About a third of the game passes before Bow is able to clear his name and emerge from hiding. It is revealed that Trout, the man Bow stole from, was actually a demon. The elder apologizes for thinking Bow was the thief and tells him and Ryu about a strange occurrence in a nearby forest that some other rangers saw. The other rangers are too afraid to return there, so the elder asks Ryu and friends to check it out. Bow remains with the others for the rest of the game as they continue their journey to uncover the truth about St. Eva's church and destroy the demons. Although he remains valuable in battle, Bow plays a minor role throughout the rest of the story.
At the end of the game Bow continues to travel with his buddy Ryu in search of more adventure.
In Combat
Bow is the party's best healer, and generally solid defensively. His weapons sometimes come with special features such as allowing him to attack more than once in a turn or hitting all enemies.
Skills
Hunt
Occasionally while roaming the world map, the player may encounter grassy patches that transport them to a top-view hunting mini-game. While hunting, Bow can use his crossbow to attack enemies from afar but his firing rate is rather slow.
Shot
In combat, he has a special ability called "Shot" which will either defeat enemies in one hit or have no effect.
Shaman Fusions
By fusing with Seny, the Holy Shaman, and Shin, the Devil Shaman, Bow transforms into a heavily armored creature with a left arm that looks and fires like a bazooka. He is more efficient in hunting because he can fire projectiles faster than normal Bow. His attack power and defense is greatly increased.
Note
There is a character in Breath of Fire V named Bosche that has a similar name to Bow's Japanese name, Bosche, but there is no relation between these characters.
Rand
Rand is a fictional character from Capcom's Breath of Fire II video game. He is a member of the crust tribe and the oldest member of the party.
Overview
Rand is first introduced to the player at Coursair where he is working as the manager of the Coliseum. He overhears the coliseum's owner, Augus, talk about rigging a match, and the next day Katt is struck by a poisoned dart in the middle of a fight. Rand teams up with Ryu to get Katt an antidote and the three of them confront Augus, who is really a demon in disguise. After Augus' defeat, Rand and Katt follow Ryu back to Niro's house where Bow is working as a handyman. Rand decides to stay and help Bow with the repairs. Toward the middle of the game, the two of them finish the remodeling and once more become playable characters.
Rand was raised with the rest of his tribe in the simple community of Farmtown (which, as the name would suggest consists mainly of farmers). Although the game never reveals the specifics, it is assumed that he grew bored with living in a small town and left abruptly in pursuit of a more exciting life. It suggested that he had not been in Coursair very long before meeting Ryu, since in the SNES version one of the game's intros shows him of about the same age and still living in Farmtown.
The team's quest eventually takes them to Farmtown. It appears that St. Eva's church has taken an interest in the area; a woman is seen chasing a priest out of her yard after he tries to talk her into allowing him to build a church on her property. The party soon learns that this woman is Rand's no-nonsense mother, Daisy. When her son stops by her house she beats him with a ladle, demanding to know why he left town. Rand tries to apologize and Daisy orders him and his friends to go plow the fields. This leads to one of the game's more humorous scenes when the party accomplishes its task by battling a series of rocks, stumps, and other yard obstructions.
After completing a few side-quests, the party returns to Farmtown and finds that Daisy's farm has been seized by the Church. A representative of the church shows a note which is supposedly in Daisy's handwriting, granting them permission to do so. Daisy is nowhere to be found and Ray, one of the church's leaders, claims that she has had a change of heart and left for the church's capital in Evrai. Rand, knowing his mother, thinks Ray is lying and that the church has kidnapped her. Rand's prediction is validated after Ray battles the party (although after his defeat it is revealed that he was merely a pawn and used his dragon power to unlock Ryu's true power) and Daisy is found locked in one of the church's towers. As they proceed up the tower, Rand uses his Ram skill to break down a wall, but triggers a trap, causing another wall to slide toward him. He is able to hold back the wall, but knows that the moment he lets go, it will crush him. He asks the rest of the party to leave so that they won't have to see him die. They obey his wish and it seems that he is done for until Daisy appears. She asks Rand why he had to go and play the hero, and after a tender moment she shoves Rand out of the way, thus sacrificing herself in order to save her son. Rand is depressed for a while and blames himself for his mother's death, but overcomes these feelings and rejoins the others who are now in pursuit of Habaruku, the leader of St. Eva.
At the end of the game, Rand returns to work at the Coliseum in Coursair.
In Combat
In combat, Rand is well-rounded, with good offensive and defensive abilities, supplemented with effective healing magic. He has a high amount of HP and average AP, however, he is the slowest member in your party.
Skills
Roll
When on the world map, Rand can roll up into a ball, which increases travel speed and prevents random encounters with enemies and only stops if he crashes into obstacle, where the party will usually end up in a random battle.
Wake
Rand's Wake ability causes minor damage which can wake up sleeping allies and has a very small chance of reviving unconscious allies.
Shaman Fusions
By fusing the Fire, Water, or Holy Shaman with the Earth Shaman, Rand can transform into the Spiked Armadillo; a stout, hard-shelled armadillo with a set of large horns. Although he is somewhat faster in this form, and his attack power is increased, he cannot roll across the world map in this form.
Katt
Katt is a fictional character from Capcom's Breath of Fire II video game. She is the youngest member of the party and has the least developed backstory.
Overview
Ryu meets Katt at Coursair's coliseum where he's searching for the real thief so that he can clear Bow's name. Ryu and Katt wind up in a fight together and the coliseum owner, a mysterious man by the name of Augus, decides that the fight needs more action and accomplishes this by shooting Katt with a poisonous dart during the fight. Ryu teams up with Rand, one of the coliseum workers, in order to get an antidote for Katt. You can also choose to save Katt from the poisonous dart by running up to her and pushing her out of the way. If you do this a scene will play where Ryu is in a bed but recovers because of the two antidotes he took before the match, also you get to fight Augus with Ryu, Rand, and Katt, instead of just Ryu and Rand. The trio then learns that Augus is actually a demon and defeat him in battle. Because of all the trouble, Ryu decides that they should lay low for a while and takes them back to Niro's house so that they can meet Bow and help him with the repairs. Katt remains a member of the team for the rest of the game, although she can be switched out if the player wishes.Katt's past is never revealed. It appears that she accompanied Ryu to Township because she had no permanent home (she had been temporarily staying at the coliseum), leading the player to believe she was leading a nomadic lifestyle. In the latter half of the game the player comes across Cot Land, a village where a character from the same tribe as Katt lives. Since this is the only place in the game where other Woren seem to live, some players assume that this is Katt's hometown. However, this seems unlikely considering that no one in the town makes any indication of recognizing Katt, thus her true birthplace remains a mystery.
While visiting Cot Land the chief, a large Woren named Tiga, becomes smitten with Katt. Tiga is the leader of a rebel group which is opposed to St. Eva's church. His group feels that it is their responsibility to expose the church for what it really is. Tiga is so smitten by Katt that he begins to act like a stalker and eventually challenges Ryu to a duel over the right to marry Katt. The player cannot win this fight, and Katt becomes engaged to Tiga. Ryu's group accompanies the Tiga's group as they sneak into the Grand Church of St. Eva under the guise of church members. The head priest of the church, Habaruku, catches Claris, a human member of the rebels. Using his dark powers, he reads her mind and discovers that the others are hiding in the congregation. He begins torturing Claris and Tiga, who has just realized that he feels true love for Claris, and merely has a crush on Katt, exposes himself in an attempt to save Claris. Habaruku than uses his powerful magic to kill both of them on the spot. Although Katt never harbored any romantic feelings toward Tiga, witnessing his death profoundly affects her outlook on life and it is at this point that Ryu and others decide that St. Eva's church is the real enemy.
In Combat
Katt is a powerful fighter. She has the highest speed out of any character and has naturally strong offense, although her weapons tend to be weaker than Ryu's. She also learns a few very powerful attack spells, although her wisdom is so low that in some cases she learns a skill before she has enough AP to cast it. Her main weaknesses are her low defense and HP.
Skills
Hunting
Occasionally while roaming the world map, the player may encounter grassy patches that transport them to a top-view hunting mini-game. While hunting, Katt can use her staff to attack enemies, although she has a handicap since she must get close to the enemy without scaring it.
Dare
Katt's Dare ability will make the enemy more likely to attack Katt over her teammates. It also slightly lowers the enemy's accuracy and increases Katt's chance of a counterattack. Although this is useful in theory, using Dare is not always wise because of her low HP and defense scores.
Staff Thrust
There are a few spots in the game where a barrier such as a gate or wall obstructs the party's path. In these instances, Katt can use her staff to ram through the barrier. This skill cannot be used on normal walls.Shaman Fusions
By fusing the Fire or Water Shaman with the Devil Shaman, Katt can transform into the Battle Cat. In this form she has blue fur, blonde hair, and a red leotard. It also changes her Dare ability to Keep, an especially powerful skill that enables her to pass up one turn in order to cause four times her normal damage on the next one.
Nina
Nina is a fictional character from Capcom's video game Breath of Fire II. She is a princess of Windia but has been exiled because of her black wings, which are regarded as an ill omen. She is descended from the Nina of the original Breath of Fire.
Overview
Nina is perhaps the most important supporting character in the game. The player discovers her at Home Town's magic school and initially teams up with her in order to protect her sister, Mina, from a band of thieves whose leader is a demon in disguise. After defeating the thieves, Ryu and the others agree to accompany her and her sister back to their home, Windia. Upon reaching the city Mina is welcomed with open arms, but Nina is shunned and the player learns that she has been exiled due to her black wings. She agrees to join the party in their attempt to locate Patty the Phantom Thief.
Calm and introspective, Nina is one of the more mature characters that joins the party. After her exile, she was sent to Hometown's famed magic school by her parents. She is indifferent to most of the party, although she seems to get along fairly well with Ryu and Katt.
As the game progresses, Nina becomes more and more essential to the plot. Nina later returns to Wyndia and is permitted entrance to the city in order to visit her ailing father. During her stay the Queen tells Nina more about the legend surrounding her black wings, and she realizes that she was sent away for her own protection. She also overhears a messenger from St. Eva's church threaten her father. Fearing for her family's safety (and for Rand's mother Daisy who is presumably being held at the St. Eva church in Evrai, only accessible by air) she decided to enter the sky cave, a lengthy dungeon which must be completed without the help of her teammates, and undergo the ordeal that will allow her to become the Great Bird, the legendary protector of her people. After completing the ordeal Nina is visited by her ancestor, Nina from the original Breath of Fire. The older Nina apologizes to her descendant, explaining that once all Fae had the ability to become the Great Bird, but she gave that power away in order to marry a man of another tribe (presumably the original Ryu). It is discovered that the two Ninas are six generations apart. Nina forgives her ancestor and receives "the mark of the wing", being warned that she may still transform into the great bird, but at the price that she will never be able to return to her human form.
At this point Nina rejoins the rest of the party and speaks with her father, telling him of her desire to become the great bird which she believes can help defeat the demons. The king is saddened by her decision but offers his support, asking that she only wait until the morning. The game then cuts to later that night and a woman is seen sneaking into Nina's room. She steals the mark of the wing. Nina wakes in the morning prepared for the transformation, only to discover that the mark has been stolen. Nina realizes what has happened and rushes to the ceremonial tower but she is too late; Mina has locked the door and is prepared to transform into the Great Bird in her sister's place. Nina bangs on the door and tries to talk her sister out of it, and Mina explains that she wants to do her part to save the world. Mina ends the conversation, asking that Nina still call her by her own name after she transforms. The ceremony begins, and Mina turns into the Great Bird.
Nina continues with the others as they travel to Evrai, the headquarters of St. Eva's church, then to Ryu's hometown Gate, and finally to a great labyrinth which leads to the hidden land of the Dragon Clan, where they prepare for the final battle.
In Combat
Nina is a great asset in battle and, unless the player has recruited Bleu, will have the most powerful attack magic in the party (The exception being Ryu's dragon spells). She has high wisdom and AP but, typical of magic-based characters in RPGs, is plagued by low HP, Offense, and Defense. Her powers are particularly useful when fighting bosses that possess elemental weaknesses or large groups of enemies, since many of her spells hit multiple targets.
Skills
Great Bird
Toward the end of the game, Nina will temporarily gain the ability to call the Great Bird (Mina) while on the world map. With this ability the party can fly to virtually any location in the game, including several areas which are only accessible by flight.
Will
Nina's Will ability functions much like Ryu's Guts except that it recovers AP instead of HP. Normally, Nina recovers 16 AP. However, if she is completely out of AP at the time she uses Will, she will instead recover 24 AP. Occasionally, the ability fails and she recovers no AP for that turn. This skill is extremely beneficial since Nina relies heavily on magic. It also has two specific benefits over using items. First, AP replenishing items tend to be very expensive; thus a player who makes use of Nina's Will ability can save a substantial amount of money. Secondly, a unique feature of Breath of Fire II is that nearly all AP-replenishing items cause the player to lose HP equal to the amount of AP they recovered. This is not a factor when the player uses Will.
Flight
In certain dungeons, there are pits that lead to the floor below if the player falls in. This can become quite a nuisance, but if the player has put Nina in the lead, she can fly out of these pits.Shaman Fusions
By fusing with the Wind and Holy Shamans, Nina can transform into the Great Angel. This changes her appearance into a blue-haired angel in a regal dress, and her combat ability becomes Banish, which causes the enemies to flee from battle. However, if this is used no experience or money is gained from that battle.
Sten
Sten is a fictional character from Capcom's video game, Breath of Fire II. He is a traveling magician introduced in Windia. Formerly a soldier of the Highlanders he is able to reach across large distances with his arms.
Overview
Sten, a former soldier of Highfort, makes his living as a traveling magician performing magic tricks. A bit of a womanizer, he is introduced to the party when he attempts to con Katt and Nina into going on a date with him. He quickly pledges subservience to the party, calling Ryu "Boss."
The party's visit to Highfort to retrieve the Famous Flute provides some insight into Sten's past. Once a decorated soldier in the mercenary armies of Highfort, he charged directly into the enemy at a catastrophic battle at Goonheim and was thought to be dead; however, he ran away.
Upon his return, many of the soldiers are happy to see him alive, with the notable exception of his former comrade Trubo, who calls him a coward and attacks him for having abandoned the Princess. However, Sten and Trubo ultimately team up to stop the ambitions of the new general Shupkay. In doing so, Sten demonstrates his true sense of duty by sacrificing himself to save the party and the Princess, only to, in his words, "fail to die again."
At the end of the game, Sten returns to Highfort to help with the restoration.
In Combat
Sten is quick, although not as much so as Katt, and has moderate attack power and defense. This, combined with his repertoire of explosive magic, makes him a good general-purpose fighter.
Skills
RIP
Sten will play dead in battle. He still attacks the enemy while playing dead. This will make enemies less likely to attack Sten. However, this means that other party members will take more hits. Depending on your formation, some characters who would have taken a low percentage of hits will now have a much greater chance of getting hit. In Breath of Fire II, when a character who is not in the last position in the party dies, the percentage that a character in the last position will take a hit is greatly increased.Long Reach
On the World Map and in certain areas, Sten can pull the party across small gaps designated by a post on each side. This can provide for useful shortcuts in some areas.Shaman Fusions
Sten fuses best with the Fire Shaman. When paired with Sana, the Fire Shaman, and Seso, the Water Shaman, Sten transforms into Djinni. This changes his appearance into a fiery-headed djinni with no legs. He also wears some jewelry. His combat ability becomes Sweh, which switches the enemy party into a different enemy party commonly found in the area.
Jean
Jean is a fictional character from Capcom's video game, Breath of Fire II. You meet him as giant frog in the forest near the Witch's Tower. He speaks with a heavy French accent.
Overview
Jeans is the prince from Sima Fort. When in the Witch's tower Numfu transformed him into a large frog. Ryu agreed to undo the spell. When it was discovered that a kiss from a young women would revert Jean into his normal state, Nina and Katt both had the chance.
After Jean is in his Creeping or half human, half frog, he returns home to discover that an impostor has taken his throne and places Jean in jail. Ryu and his friends came to his aid and proved to the Jean's father that Jean was the real Jean after the impostor transformed into a demon. Afterwords, Jean gave up his life as royalty to fight along side with Ryu and his friends.
At the end of the game, Jean is seen returning to Sima Fort to be with his family.
In Combat
Jean is a slow character, although not as much so as Rand, and has average attack power and defense but has a very high chance of critical hits. He strengths however are in support magic to help increase team members attack and defense while also decreasing his enemies' stats. He is also one of the only characters than can learn Death.
Skills
Jab
Jean will attacks all the enemies at once, however the amount of damage he does is also divided among the number of enemies. If there are more enemies, he will will do less damage to them.Giant Frog
On the World Map Jean transforms into a frog and can hop over low cliffs and swim in shallow water.Shaman Fusions
When paired with the Holy and Wind/Water Shamans, Jean transforms into Paladin. This changes his appearance into a slender blue frog with a red mohawk. In this form, his combat ability becomes Chop, which causes all enemies 999 damage after a one-round pause.
Spar
Spar is a fictional character from Capcom's video game, Breath of Fire II. The player first meet Spar as a circus clown which is being taken by the Tent as the Grass Man. It is unknown whether Spar is male or female since he has characteristics of both genders.
Overview
Ryu meets Spar early in the game as a circus attraction and sees him many other times as the circus travels from town to town. When the forest near Gate suddenly dies because of powerful demon, Ryu and his compatriots set out to seek the legendary Grassman who can commune with the trees so they can find out what happened in to the forest. At this point, Spar wasn't gathering a large enough crowd anymore for the circus so the owner decided to feed him to a demon. Ryu and his friends fight against the owner of the circus, who reveals himself as a bloody demon. After the demon's defeat, Spar reveals that he could have escaped from the circus anytime he wanted but instead he stayed there waiting for people who realized that something was wrong with the world and at this point Spar finally joins the group and leads the party to Gandaroof, the wisest of all the wise trees to gain information about what is happening to the world.
In Combat
Spar has a lot of HP and AP and can cast healing and support type magic. His attack magic is limited, but fairly powerful. He is relatively fast but suffers from his we weak attacks.
Skills
Nature
Spar can summon surrounding plant life to aid him in combat with a more or less 40% chance of success. It has different effects depending on the surroundings, including damage to enemies (desert, forest), healing (normal plain), and slowing the enemies (plain with shrubs).Forest Walk
On the World Map Spar can lead the party through thick forest and also talk to the big trees.Shaman Fusions
Spar has 3 unique Shaman fusions. When pairing the Holy, Wind, or Devil Shamans with the Water Shaman, Spar transforms into Sprite, a cute little girl with pink hair wearing a mushroom hat. She gains the Spore ability which she attempts to put the enemies to sleep, but this can also back fire and affect your own party. When pairing either the Water or Holy Shaman with the Earth Shaman, Spar transforms into Sapling. He looks a tiny onion or a pink rose bud. His attack power is increased and he can still walk through trees/forests. She gains Bud, in battle, and will continuously attack enemies after a one-round pause.
When paired with Sana, the Fire Shaman, and Seny, the Holy Shaman, Spar transforms into the Snapdragon. This changes his appearance into large, lizard-like plant creature resembling a dragon. His attack and defense is greatly increased and he retains his Nature ability, but it is much more efficient in this form.
Bleu
Bleu, or better known as Deis is a fictional character from Capcom's video game Breath of Fire II. She is a powerful sorceress who prides herself in her powerful magic and beauty. She is the same Bleu from the original Breath of Fire. She appears as a hidden character in this installment of the series.
Overview
Last we heard of Bleu was during the close of the previous Breath of Fire when she was one of the 8 Legendary Warriors who defeated the Goddess of Destruction Tyr, after which she returns to sleep in Winslon.
Ryu meets Bleu this time very early in his quest, but he just don't know its her since she's donning a disguise. Having been asleep so long, she's become quite rusty in her use of magic, but a rusty Bleu is still much more powerful than any of your current party members when it comes to magic. She disguises herself and is one of the students in magic school. You first learn of her existence when you stumble into what remains of Winslon (a little hole in desert) and find the spirits there saying that Bleu has gone out. You'll also notice a lot of empty bottles of booze in her room, which indicates that she is a heavy drinker. She forcibly joins Ryu's party when you talk to her again and she decides that she's better off relearning her magic on the field than in a class room.
She doesn't play much of a role in the plot since she's a secret character but she does make many references to past events and spends most of her time sleeping in TownShip. After defeating Deathevan, she states that defeating a demon was well worth waking up for. It is implied that she returned to sleep at the end of game as she has stated that she feels sleepy from working so hard.
In Combat
Bleu has high AP, though not as high as Nina but has better overall stats. She is also one of your fastest characters and has some of the most powerful magic spells including Death.
Skills
Hunting
Occasionally while roaming the world map, the player may encounter grassy patches that transport them to a top-view hunting mini-game. While hunting, Bleu will cast a powerful spell and vaporize everything leaving only charcoal.Shed
Bleu can use her Shed ability to shed her skin and fully recover her HP. However this decreases her defense temporarily.
Other characters
Deathevan
Deathevan, the main antagonist from Breath of Fire II, is the offspring of Myria, the Goddess of Destruction from Breath of Fire. Evan, the god of St. Eva's Church, takes on this form after Ryu charges him and cuts him down. However, Anfini's magic restores the party, and they face him as the final boss. He is defeated, but will supposedly return.Yua
Yua is the younger sister of the main character Ryu. It is also believed that she is the character Patty the Phantom Thief.Ganer
Ganer is Yua and Ryu's father in Breath of Fire II, and was the preacher of St. Eva at Gate. At the beginning of the game, he tells Ryu to find Yua for her nap. After you find her near the dragon, Ganer will come back and Yua will say how when she sleeps near the dragon she dreams of mom. After that, Ganer and Yua go back to Gate while Ryu stays behind. When you do get back to Gate, you find that your father and sister are missing and no one knows who you are. When you get to the Great Tree part of the game, you have to battle a demon as a boss. This demon reveals that it was he who erased the memories of the people of Gate and kidnapped Ganer. Later, when you get to Evrai, you will have to battle a machine that has Ganer under its control. If you attack the entire machine at once you will defeat it easily; however, you will also end up killing Ganer. However, if you battle each segment of the machine separately, it will be more difficult to defeat but you'll be able to save Ganer. Afterwards, he will go into detail about his disappearance. He explains that he was attached to a machine that used the power of prayers of the faithful to give strength to the demon Deathevn. If you rescued Ganer in Evrai and found Eichichi, you will be able to give Township the ability to fly.
