The following is a list of recurring creatures that have appeared in the Resident Evil series. For creatures in Resident Evil 4, see List of Resident Evil 4 creatures.

Mammal/Hybrid-based creatures

A zombie, in the Resident Evil series, refers to any person that has succumbed to the T-Virus (either, through contaminated water supply, airborne exposure or via rodents) and has been turned into a reanimated corpse that feeds on human flesh. Zombies are the cannon fodder of T-Virus bioweapons. The incubation period for the virus varies depending on how strong the person's immune system is. A human will eventually turn into a zombie some time after the initial exposure to the virus, this can be a week in some cases though it is generally within a few hours, sometimes even minutes. This is usually after being heavily injured or killed by a T-Virus carrier. The most notable symptom prior to mutation is the itchiness that results from the carrier's increased metabolism or feeling sick and disoriented and sometimes vomit.

A zombie has lost any sense of reasoning and is driven completely by instincts. A zombie will pursue its prey, until it has lost enough blood or through decapitation or complete destruction of the head. A zombie can resist several gunshots from a typical 9mm handgun before falling down, but can be easily killed with either a well-aimed shotgun blast to the head or a high-caliber magnum handgun. However, there are also rare hyper zombies (not to be confused with "Crimson Heads") that will approach their prey very quickly and are resistant to projectile weapons.

A zombie will continue to pursue its prey even after losing its limbs or lower half of the body. Zombies that have lost the use of their legs (either through deterioration or a well-aimed gunshot) will instead crawl towards its prey until they can bite their prey's leg. They can easily be stopped with one good stomp or kick to their head. Other zombies will lay dormant on the ground due to their lack of nutrition, but will bite anything that comes to their direction. Some zombies will pretend to be dead on the ground, only to rise up after a determined period has passed. The only way to determine a zombie's death is by checking whether there's a pool of blood under their body.

Since virtually anyone can become a zombie, they can come in different varieties depending on the location where an outbreak occurs. This ranges from ordinary civilians and police officers to workers and researchers that were experimenting on the virus. Some zombies were even created within Umbrella's facilities as a result of experiments and are usually completely naked. Individuals that have turned into zombies includes Edward Dewey (of S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team), Forest Speyer (also of S.T.A.R.S.), Marvin Branagh, Murphy Seeker and Brad Vickers among others. Capabilities of a Zombie vary as factors dependent on the carrier. A zombie can also mutate into a Licker or a Crimson Head after prolonged exposure, depending on the circumstances and chance, as only very few zombies are actually resilient enough to evolve into a Licker or Evolved Licker naturally; most of these are the result of artificial gene manipulation.

Crimson Head

A Crimson Head (or V-ACT) is a type of zombie. After the T-Virus infects a normal human being, it rapidly initiates a brain cell decline, but should the new zombie be incapacitated or decapitated, after a time, the zombies cell tissue regenerates and becomes more fresh, making it able to run. The T-Virus gives a little more intelligence to the monster, causing deeper necrotizing effects and terrible blood seeping, giving it a crimson skin, small claws, heavy resistance to common firearms, and a more aggressive attitude. Capable of a crouching sprint, clawing attacks, and limited jumping, a Crimson Head presents a significant threat to all but a heavily armed combatant. Essentially rendering sidearms useless, engagement with anything but an explosive or shotgun is highly discouraged.

The process is only halted by incinerating (burning) the fallen zombie, decapitation (entirely removing the head) or by blowing out its knee caps, thereby destroying any possibility for regeneration and mutation. Areas in which a zombie was dispatched and left untended are to be deemed extremely hazardous, and any encounter with a Crimson Head where the combatant does not have access to more powerful weapons (I.E. Grenade Launchers, grenades, assault rifles) are under advisement to flee immediately. If the Crimson Head is killed, it will no longer resurrect itself. If the Crimson Head is allowed to mutate further it will eventually transform into the creature that the survivors of the Raccoon City Police Department dubbed "Licker".

Green Zombie

-->
The Green Zombie is another 'irregular' created when a T-Virus infected host somehow becomes further infested with mutated plant growth. So far, the Green Zombie has only appeared in the densely vegetated Arklay Forest during the "Flashback" scenario, and is suspected to have come into contact with an enormous infected plant, referred to as 'Dorothy', located at an abandoned hospital on the outskirts of Raccoon City. The Green Zombies are suspected to have been members of a botanist team that had recently reported the discovery of a previously unknown species of plantlife in the Arklay region. Not releasing specifics regarding their find, the team had wanted to be certain that rival elements within related fields of research wouldn't be given the opportunity to steal credit for their newfound discovery. The team mysteriously disappeared following a sudden loss of communications, although no distress call was received, and the nature of their extended research would have made prolonged study and subsequent encampment a probability. Investigation into the matter was considered low-priority.

The Green Zombie behaves in much the same manner as its regular counterpart, as the plant growth infesting the creature seems to have had no obvious effect on the T-Virus strain, although the Green Zombie appears to have highly toxic spores coursing through its bloodstream, and will release said spores into the surrounding environment when physically harmed by an opponent. It would seem apparent that the Green Zombie is the product of a symbiotic relationship, as the body of the zombie provides nutrition for the plantlife, while the plant gives the zombie poisonous properties. Fortunately, the Green Zombie is still considered a moderately weak opponent and is still vulnerable to attack from a safe distance. When encountering a Green Zombie, a survivor would be wise to have available an 'Antidote' capsule or 'Blue Herb' (See Arklay Mountains for further details regarding healing items). Use of firearms is highly recommended, with flammable items such as homemade pesticide/lighter combinations proving extremely successful. The use of melee weapons and close quarters defensive items, such as combat knives and spears, should be considered only when absolutely necessary.

Regis Licker

-->
The Regis Licker is a V-ACT (or Crimson Head) in an early stage of further mutation. A hideous and terrifying creature, the Regis Licker is still much more human in appearance and possesses many traits not common to fully mutated Lickers, such as eyes and a lack of exposed brain tissue, an immediately obvious trait unique to its fully mutated counterparts. The Regis Licker suspends itself from ceilings by its hind feet, lashing out at potential victims with its claws and elongated tongue. Throughout the entire period of the outbreak, only one Regis Licker was ever reported encountered in Raccoon City, in the lobby of the Apple Inn during the evacuation of the underpass region.

Licker

A Licker is a V-ACT (or Crimson Head) in advanced mutation. Originally a zombie before transforming into a Crimson Head, and then further mutating into a Regis Licker, the creature has finally mutated into what was unceremoniously named Licker by members of the Raccoon City Police Department who managed to survive the early stages of the T-Virus outbreak which decimated the city. The creature got its name from its most distinguishing characteristic: its long sharp tongue which it uses to attack its prey. It also has its brain and muscle tissue exposed, as well as sharp claws on both of its arms. However, they don't have eyes and have to rely on their acute sense of hearing.

A Licker walks on four legs and can climb walls. It also has the ability to jump towards its prey at great heights. However, since a Licker relies on its hearing to track down its prey, its easily vulnerable to weapons that make little sound.

In addition to the regular Lickers, there were also Enhanced Lickers located in Umbrella's Underground Research Facility in Raccoon City. These had a greater resistance and attack power than the regular Lickers, also these creatures are green in color and have larged sickle shaped claws. They have improved speed, jumping ability and strength than regular Lickers, and they tend to attack in groups, not to mention their clear superiority over other types of Lickers, rivaling even the feral battle power of Hunters.

It still remains unknown wether the Enhanced Licker represents the creatures final form, or if further mutations are possible.

Eliminator

The Eliminator is a primate-based B.O.W. and one of several early prototype weapons developed exclusively by Dr. James Marcus during the final test phases of the T-Virus capabilities as a weapon, but before the selection of a specific carrier for the strain. Developed alongside the Eliminator were the Lurker and Plague Crawler, further displaying Marcus' fascination with the use of unlikely subjects as deadly weapons. Primates infected with the T-Virus strain exhibited rapid development of excess muscle tissue, resulting in visible tearing to the subject's flesh. Further exposure caused a rapid increase in strength, agility, stamina and aggression, resulting in a deadly and efficient killer.

Although initially deemed a successful product, the Eliminator was found to have undergone significant decline in overall intelligence, which was supposed to be its greatest asset to Umbrella's B.O.W. program. Mass-production of the Eliminator was cancelled and only a handful of specimens preserved for further testing and general research. Dr. Marcus instead turned his attention to the potential that human subjects presented as T-Virus hosts, later unwittingly providing William Birkin and Albert Wesker with the first scraps of information pertaining to the creation of the Tyrant-class B.O.W.

Cerberus or Zombie Dog

A Cerberus or Zombie Dog is a Dobermann that has turned into a bloodthirsty hell-hound as a result of the T-Virus and now attacks any living thing that comes into its proximity. They are faster and more aggressive than a regular human zombie. These dogs have parts of their internal organs and rib cage partially exposed. Although the terms Cerberus and Zombie Dog are usually used almost interchangeably, there is a huge difference between a Cerberus and the average Zombie Dog.

A Cerberus was used as a test subject by Umbrella to test the effects on the T-Virus. They were given the code number MA-39 and were named Cerberus after the mythological three-headed guardian of Hades. The Cerberuses were seen in the Arklay Research Facility (in Resident Evil) and running amok in the Arklay forest area (this pack was the one that killed Edward Dewey and Kevin Dooley, as well as Joseph Frost). Of these, most present some internal weakness, which points to a weakness in their viral strain. A few Cerberuses were also being transported within the Ecliptic Express (in Resident Evil 0) inside the train's Freight Car.

A Zombie Dog on the other hand, was created through accidental exposure to the T-Virus as a result of a viral outbreak. The Zombie Dogs seen in Raccoon City (in Resident Evil 2 and ') were police dogs that ate contaminated dog food and became zombies. The Zombie Dogs in Rockfort Island Military Training Facility (in ') were military dogs used by Umbrella's Special Forces. Still, of these, most only experience slight skin necrotising effects, rendering their muscles in a near-perfect state. Aggression level is also increased, making them exceedingly dangerous.

Infected Bat

The infected bat is a large-sized T-Virus infected vampire bat seen inside the cathedral in Umbrella's Management Training Facility. It goes after its prey by calling out the assistance of other regular sized infected bats. There were also infected bats in Rockfort Island during the viral outbreak, but these showed no sign of size increase and could be easily deterred by light, an element they're so vulnerable against even a lighter is effective as a deterrent.

Chimera

A Chimera in the B3F Lab.

A Chimera (which received its name from the mythical Greek creature) is a B.O.W. (Bio Organic Weapon) that was created by inserting fly DNA and the T-Virus into human tissue. They were being manufactured inside the Arklay Research Facility's basement lab and made that section of the facility (particularly the Power Generator room) into their habitat during the Mansion incident. Aside from their fly-like appearance, the Chimera's most notable characteristics is their ability to walk over walls and ceilings. They usually use the air ducts to travel from one part of the lab to the other and attack with their claw-like limbs.

The Chimera was the only other artificially-produced B.O.W. besides the Hunters and Tyrant in the facility that was created through genetic manipulation. Unlike those two, research on the Chimeras never went any further than the experimental models in the Arklay facility, as they were deemed a failure. Their wings were too small to allow them to fly (if they had any wings at all), lacked a fully developed exoskeleton like some insects, and lacked intelligence. Even though they showed signs of notable resilience, their intelligence was little more than that of an insect and mass-production was never considered. Also these creatures have a curious nature to disect other living things to study them, as mentioned in a file/microfilm from Resident Evil remake implying that they may possess some intelligence.

Hunter

Hunters are bipedal reptilian-like creatures with large claws and teeth, and are noted for their loud shriek. They are actually B.O.Ws (Bio Organic Weapons) designed by the Umbrella Corporation by combining a fertilized human ovum with reptilian DNA and then implanting the T-Virus into the resulting creature.

The original Hunters (or the Alpha models, as they've been retroactively coined) appeared in the original Resident Evil, when the player returns to the main mansion after exploring the Guardhouse thoroughly, replacing many of the zombies in the mansion. First-time players are normally taken by surprise by the Hunters, with their agility and resistance to regular firearms (in contrast to the slow zombies). Moreover, a Hunter is capable of killing the player's character by decapitation. As a result, the Hunters have become one of the best-known creatures in the series.

Several kinds of Hunters have appeared in virtually every Resident Evil game (with Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 being notable exceptions), although they're considerably easier to defeat in later versions due to the player being better equipped in those titles, even sporting multiple sub-breeds. Their lack of influence in RE2 may even be dubious, due to the deceased Hunter-121 found in the Nintendo 64 port of the game.

Making an appearance in Resident Evil: Dead Aim, a report states that a small sub-breed of Hunters, the Elite, apparently created through fusion of the T-Virus and G-Virus strains, is in all perspectives better than the average Hunter but used primarily as "show models" to impress possible buyers. They are not assumed to be mass produced but tailored individually, to suit the needs of the buyer. Appears only in Resident Evil: Dead Aim

Tyrant

A Tyrant is a recurring breed of creature in the Resident Evil series. It is the Umbrella Corporation's ultimate Bio-Organic Weapon (B.O.W.), designed to execute combat operations at levels of efficiency and speed impossible to the regular infantry soldier. The basic Tyrant design stems from severe surgical alterations to a living human being, almost always against their will, after which the subject is then directly exposed to high quantities of refined T-Virus- but it is noted in-game that very few people, about one in ten million, possess the correct genetic make-up to be able to absorb the virus completely and become a Tyrant-the rest become plain zombies. Tyrants possess superior strength and have the ability to move at incredible speeds, although usually not doing so until the subject has taken significant damage. The Tyrant B.O.W. was named after the mutagenic virus responsible for its creation, as the Tyrant is considered the ultimate testament to the T-Virus' potential. This is why the Tyrant, in one form or another, has always figured largely as a final or near-final boss in most Resident Evil titles- truly enough, regardless of being somewhat uncontrollable, they are horribly powerful, ruthless killing machines capable of taking untold punishment before going down for good.

The Offspring

William Birkin, in his G-Mutant stages, reproduces by implanting a parasitic organism into a human by regurgitating a G-larva that burrows into the body of a suitable host and grows. It will then try and transform the host into a G-type mutant. This will only be successful if the DNA of the host is similar to Birkin's or the G-Carrier. If it is not suitable, it will exit the body in a similar fashion to a chestburster from Alien, and further mutate into a large, massively deformed creature similar to that of a human and a G-Carrier, in an attempt to clone the original carrier of the virus.

William Birkin also managed to infect Monica during the "Below Freezing Point" scenario in the Raccoon City Lab while she was trying to work the turn table. After the player uses the turntable to escape, the creature bursts out of her chest and follows the player up the turn table. Depending on the person it affects, will change the creatures final outcome and look, as well as range of attacks. All the mutants can reproduce at an alarming rate and attack in similar manners, such as spitting acid, ramming, swinging its claws, and biting. When they die they dissolve and break down due to their cellular instability.

Bandersnatch

A Bandersnatch is an experimental type bio-weapon that was designed within the Rockfort Island military training facility. The creature got its name from a similar being of the same name. The Bandersnatches were designed to be Tyrant-class bio-weapons with greater adaptability and cheaper costs. It has an elongated right arm which it uses to grab and attack its prey or jump from one point to another. However, it lacks its left arm and has a devolved lower body, among other flaws, such as low intelligence and little use of any other means of attack other than repetitively thrusting its elongated arm.

Nosferatu

Nosferatu is named after the film by F.W. Murnau, who wanted to create a Dracula based movie but was unable to obtain the rights to the story. The result was "Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens" ("A Symphony of Horrors" in German).

Nosferatu is the father of Alexia Ashford and Alfred Ashford, Alexander Ashford, who has been used in an experiment with the T-Veronica virus by his own children. They considered Alexander a failure to the legacy of the Ashford family (one of the three founding families of Umbrella), and they showed no remorse at all in using their father as a test subject for Alexia's T-Veronica virus.

Alexander, due to the T-Veronica virus, had mutated to the creature known as Nosferatu. His skin has discolored into a greenish gray and has a black blood soaked leather blindfold over his eyes, which may have been surgically removed or may have deteriorated due to the mutation. His clothes consist apparently of a skirt made of a heavy material (perhaps canvas). His hands are shakled to the back of his body as a result of his forced imprisonment. His main mutations are his major tendrils sprouting from his back, closely resembling insect appendages, (perhaps due to Alexia's experimentation with ant DNA to create the T-Veronica Virus) and his ability to produce toxic gas clouds. Like other Tyrant-type monsters, Nosferatu's weak point is its exposed heart.

Zombie Lion (Female)

The type of Zombie Lions encountered most frequently in the Racoon City Zoo during the "Wild Things" scenario are mane-less female lions imported from Africa. Most of their attacks can instantly drive a player character to the ground. If a zombie lion attacks when a player character is weak enough, it may seize him or her by the throat and fling the person across the area, causing instant death.

Male Zombie Lion (Stalker or Max)

The male Zombie Lion, known as Stalker or Max, attacks in ways that are similar to the female lions previously encountered in the Racoon City Zoo. When the Stalker targets a player character directly ahead, it preforms a pouncing attack that cannot be interrupted even with powerful gunfire.

Zombie Elephant (Titan or Oscar)

The Zombie Elephant, also known as Titan or Oscar, will terrorize the player characters throughout the Raccoon City Zoo during the "Wild Things" scenario. The Zombie Elephant is the main boss of the "Wild Things" scenario, unless it has been previously killed or trapped at the Elephant Stage. If this is the case, then the Stalker becomes the opponent. The Zombie Elephant attacks enemies in its line of sight by stampeding, lashing out with its trunk, or swinging its head in an attempt to gore its prey with its tusks. When attacked from behind, the Zombie Elephant stomps its rear legs in an effort to trample people underfoot.

Zombie Hyena

Zombie Hyenas appear in only a few places inside the Racoon City Zoo during the "Wild Things" scenario. Although they behave and attack just like the Zombie Dogs/Cerberus, they react to human presence more slowly, as if fighting their former natural instinct to run from humans.

Bird-based creatures

Crow

During the initial viral outbreak in the Arklay Mountains, as well as in the later outbreak in Raccoon City, most of the crows were immediately infected with the T-Virus after eating the dead meat of an infected creature (alive or dead as zombies are immune to pain). An infected crow might resemble a regular crow at first, but will immediately attack any living creature that wander into its territory with their sharp beaks. Also, an infected crow is not as sensitive to loud noises as their regular counterparts.

Horn Bill

These exotic birds with bright feathers have become infected with the T-virus and now seek to attack and mutilate the populace they once entertained and delighted. Horn Bills fly overhead, looking for their prey. While their attacks are not devastating, Horn Bills tend to immobilize their targets just long enough for other enemies in the vicinity to strike. They appear in the Raccoon City Zoo during the "Wild Things" scenario.

Insect-based creatures

Bee

Bees thriving in the Arklay Research Center's Residence, that have grown to a huge size thanks to the viral outbreak. They hold no difference from a normal bee except for the size, but they do build a massive hive in the house, from which they have to be smothered with pesticide. It`s not a good idea to shoot them since that`s a waste of ammo, however, if you are forced to, then use a flamethrower to take out packs of them at once.Their stings are strong enough to penetrate bone and venom can kill in minutes if not treated.

Ant

A small insect that poses minimum threat, although they still carry the T-Veronica virus and attack in swarms if their home is invaded. They outnumber humans in their hive over a million to one. They are all slowly dying because their queen has passed away.

Parasite

A large fleshy growth that bursts from a zombie's chest and latches onto its victim's back. When a zombie is shot, a Parasite sometimes leaves their host's chest cavity and lands on your back. Once a Parasite is locked onto you, you must wait for it to attack before it can be thrown off. It is also poisonous. Quickly down the zombies carrying the Parasite from a range to avoid becoming a new host.

Flying Bug

Flying Bugs are tiny, nearly invisible insects that are mainly detectable when flying in a swarm near a Rafflesia plant during the "Wild Things" scenario. Moving too closely to a Flying Bug swarm invites defensive attacks, which cause insignificant damage but have a strong chance of inflicting Poison on a player character.

Moth/Giant Moth/Baby Moth/Moth Cocoon

-->
A moth enlargened due to prolonged exposure to the T-Virus. During Leon's travel to the secret lab, the Moth is over four feet long and sixty pounds. It has a weakened ability to fly due to its abnormal growth, its increased weight, and unporportional wing growth. It nested in the fingerprint computer-registering security room, and just outside the room were the Baby Moths, similarly affected eggs still in larval stage, which tend to fall down and cause minor damage. The Large Moth's main attacks are to spray their targets with poisonous powder and a ram attack. The Medium sized moths in Code: Veronica in the Antarctic Research facility, also have a poison powder attack and they can lay eggs/coccons on a target's back which stay on it until they hatch and cause it damage. The moths in Resident Evil: Code Veronica are in the Antarctic Research Center in the main hallway.

Plague Crawler

The Plague Crawler is one of the bio-weapons created from James Marcus' early experiments with the T-Virus, along with the Eliminators and Lurkers. They were created by manipulating the genes of several bugs into one organism and then implanting the virus. A Plague Crawler is two meters long in size and attacks its prey with large pincers. They were considered unfit for heavy combat due to their lack of intelligence and were disposed. However, a few of the specimens survived and managed to procreate outside of human eyes.

Brain Sucker

The Brain Sucker is a relative of the Drain Deimos. These creatures mainly differ from Drain Deimos by means of their attacks and double heads. These creatures run at their victims and try to latch on to the head, and try to honor their names by attempting to devour the brain. Sometimes while in the process of doing so they may inject poison into the damaged opponent.

Drain Deimos

Evolved insects, created accidentally by uncontrolled merging of several insectoid creatures into one. Very similar to the Brain Sucker and the Chimera, they attack by using the multiple arms to snare prey and use their powerful mandibles to bite the victim. They travel by climbing the walls and ceilings of mainly city environments, though they may be found throughout several areas.

Mega Bite

Fleas mutated to freakishly large sizes, they are found in the Raccoon City Subway during the "Underbelly" scenario. They will latch onto player characters and suck some of their blood. After tasting blood, Mega Bites mutate further into much larger, red forms that attack with claw swipes or a rolling attack. They can be distracted by spilling blood packs. Purple versions of the "small" Mega Bite will inject poison with their bites.

Giga Bite

The queen Mega Bite, has grown nearly as large as a subway tunnel. It mainly stays in the same place, attacking with swipes when players characters get too close. The Giga Bite will be assisted by two red Mega Bites (more will arrive if they are killed), and may also summon a quartet of rolling Mega Bites that attempt to crush the characters. The most effective method of killing the Giga Bite is by utilising the Magnum Revolvers which can be found in various locations in the subway. The Giga Bite is encountered during the "Underbelly" scenario.

Scissor Tail

Scissor Tails are large, six legged insects that appear during the "Outbreak" and "Flashback" scenarios. They have segmented tails that open into a stinger, which the creature uses to inject poison into its victims. They are also powerful jumpers, and can pounce on prey and deliver a powerful bite. Gunfire may knock the insect onto its back, where it will be helpless but it will eventually flip itself back over. Scissor Tails appear sparingly in both Outbreak games but are formidable enemies.

Centurion

An enlarged and genetically mutated centipede that's well over 30 feet tall. Unlike most creatures infected with the T-virus, the appearance of the Centureon is similar to that of a regular centipede, save for the colossal size. While searching a draining pool on the Training Facility's 3rd floor, the Centurion attacks and captures Rebecca in its mandibles, resulting in Billy Coen having to defeat the centipede without harming her. The Centurion, like many other creatures in the series, was an accidental creation of the T-virus outbreak.

Stinger

A massive combination of a scorpion and a crab, encountered during the Ecliptic Express incident in Resident Evil: Zero, in which it breached the ceiling of the train's bar and confronted Billy Coen or Rebecca Chambers. In either case, it had little means of attack, merely ramming its prey, using its pincers or stinging with its tail. Having an armored carapace that shielded it from all harm, save for the headpiece, it was nigh invulnerable unless shot in the head area. Thus, exploiting its basic weakness, it was terminated.

Giant Spider

There have been several spider-based B.O.Ws and irregular mutants created as a result of Umbrella's experimentations with the T-Virus. Common characteristics between these creatures are their abnormally large size (almost to human proportions) and their ability to spit venomous acid that can only be treated by blue herbs.

The first were the Web Spinners, born in the Arklay Research Facility (in Resident Evil). Ironically enough, these spiders lost their ability to spin webs due to their large sizes. However, they still retain their ability to crawl over walls and ceilings and will leave behind a swarm of Baby Spiders from their abdomen when killed. The Black Tiger (seen in the facility's Underground Tunnels) is a type of Web Spinner that has underwent further mutation. It is twice the size of a regular Web Spinner and has its ability to spin web restored.

The spider-based B.O.W.s developed in the Umbrella Management Training Facility (in Resident Evil 0) were known as Giant Spiders. They are similar to the Web Spinners, lacking only the ability to procreate after death. The term Giant Spider is also designated to the infected spiders in Raccoon City's sewers (in Resident Evil 2) that are not B.O.Ws, but were infected by the viral outbreak. These spiders were also seen in the corridors of the St. Michael Clock Tower (in ) and around the Umbrella experiment facility (in ''Resident Evil Outbreak).

The Black Widows were B.O.W.s that were developed based on data collected from the Giant Spiders in Raccoon City and as their name suggest, they were developed by implanting the T-Virus into black widow spiders. They were sent to Rockfort Island (in ') for training purposes. However, one of the Black Widows was transferred to the Antarctic Facility and mutated into the Giant Black Widow''' as a result of the environment change. Like Web Spinners, the Giant Black Widow will release its offsprings upon death.

Worm-based creatures

Grave Digger

The Grave Digger from .
The Grave Digger from .

A huge, heavily armored worm-like creature in the Resident Evil series of games. Apparently exposed to massive amounts of the T-Virus, the worm has mutated to enormous size. It retains the ability to burrow underground, and it prefers a subterranean environment to above ground areas, although it will surface if hunger overwhelms its natural instincts. It has also developed four long mandibles, which it uses to drag prey into its gaping, tooth-filled maw. It usually attacks prey with lunging and/or biting attacks, using its huge bulk to force its prey into a corner, where it can trap and devour it. Jill Valentine faced a Grave Digger in , when it collapsed part of an alley and attacked her by lunging out of tunnels in the sewer system. She soon found out that, possibly because of the mutations to its sensory organs, the creature was extremely vulnerable to the acid in her specially mixed grenades. Jill faced the creature a second time in the Raccoon Park cemetery, where she had the opportunity to dispose of it with her weapons, or wait for the tremors it created to knock a flimsy light pole into a puddle, and lure the Grave Digger into the electrified water for an instant kill. This mutant seems to be influenced by the Tremors films.

Sliding Worm

Gravedigger's offspring. Usually found near a water source, they will latch onto you when approached and suck your blood. These are also found in the hospital and appear to be versions of medical leaches that were mutated by the T-Virus.

Gulp Worm

The Gulp Worm is a T-Virus infected annelid, originally of the common earthworm variety. Whether or not this enemy is a deliberate creation accredited to one of Umbrella's B.O.W. research teams or simply another random infection created through accidental contamination remains to be seen. Regardless, this creature is a formidable advisary. The Gulp Worm hunts through the use of its highly sensitive exterior, by 'feeling' vibrations emitted through sound and during movement. If sensing prey, the Gulp Worm will launch its considerable mass towards its target, generally knocking it to the ground, or if worst case scenario were to occur, consume its prey whole when properly positioned during attack.

The Gulp Worm is almost entirely identical to the 'Grave Digger' although, rather fortunately, does not possess the latter's large and deadly mandibles. Over 20 feet long and generally retaining its natural shape, the Gulp Worm has often been compared to the Graboid of 'Tremors' infamy. Be aware that the Gulp Worm is entirely protected when burrowed beneath the surface, and only vulnerable to counterattack when surfacing to engage its target. The creature's head is its known weak point, although positioning oneself directly opposite the Gulp Worm as it launches into attack is extremely dangerous. High-powered weapons and a plentiful ammunition supply are also advised when engaging this creature. The Gulp Worm will be encountered twice at the Umbrella Corporation's prison facility on Rockfort Island in , but cannot be eliminated until its second attack.

Fish-based creatures

Neptune

Neptune (named after the Roman god of the sea) is a B.O.W. that was created by implanting the T-Virus into a great white shark. It was given the development code of Fi-3 and was created specifically to test the effects of the virus on a sea creature. The creature was accompanied by two smaller offspring. During the viral outbreak in the facility, Neptune and its spawn were released from their water tanks by a scientist-gone-insane, who flooded the entire Aqua Ring. The creatures are very persistent and dangerous underwater. Instead of confronting the two first sharks directly, one must go to the water control room and activate the drainage system. Once they're out of the water, they become completely vulnerable to gunfire or electrocution. To deal with the last one, one must push a power box into its tank, killing the shark instantly. However, one may also use conventional weapons as an alternative to kill the last one, but it would be wiser to save ammo by pushing the power box into it's tank. At least two Neptunes swam in the river bordering the Raccoon University; precisely where they came from is unknown. Although these two were almost certainly killed when Raccoon City was destroyed it is unknown if any more were in the river and managed to get outside the quarantine zone. The fact that the sharks were swimming in freshwater is apparently a product of their T-Viral infection.

Amphibian-based creatures

Glimmer

The Glimmer was a Hunter-class variant B.O.W. that was, apparently, created entirely by accident. Roughly the size of a short human, these frog-like creatures possessed over 20 glassy, red-orange eyes atop their flat heads, which glowed in the dark. They first appeared in the sub-levels of an Umbrella Corporation waste disposal facility in the Atlantic, and were named "Glimmers" by the facility's maintainers, because of how their multiple eyes eerily glowed in the dark. They are extremely fast, their multiple glowing eyes leaving a blur effect as they move quickly from side to side in anticipation of a coming gunshot.

Lurker

The Lurker is one of the first bio-weapons created from James Marcus' early experiments with the Progenitor Virus along with the Eliminators and Plague Crawlers. It is an amphibian frog that has grown to large proportions. Its eyes have devolved greatly from the mutation, but this is compensated with improved hearing senses and a strong body that is almost impervious to bullets. They attack with sharp piercing tongues and can swallow a human body whole. However the mutation showed no increase in intelligence and research on them were abandoned.

Albanoid Juvenile/Albanoid Adult

An Albanoid is an experimental bio-weapon that created in Rockfort Island by perfoming gene manipulation with an infant salamander and implanting T-Virus into the creature. The creature has the ability to manipulate electricity and shock its prey.

An Albanoid has a quick growth rate, able to grow from a larva to an adult in merely ten hours. The Adult Albanoid not only has an increased size from the larva, but also an increased electric charge (especially in water).

Reptile-based creatures

Alligator

During the viral outbreak in Raccoon City, survivors Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield encountered an alligator that mutated to a very large size as a result of T-Virus exposure. The creature's most notable characteristics includes its huge size (over ten meters long) and its craving to bite anything. It uses the trash dump inside the sewers as its habitat and source of food.

Infected alligators were also seen during the viral outbreak in Sheena Island. Like the one in Raccoon City, these were not deliberate bio-weapons, but accidental creations.

An alligator was also found in the "Wild Things" scenario of Resident Evil Outbreak File #2, swimming in it's zoo habitat that the survivors had to cross. It is assumed that this was, again, an accidental creation when the T-Virus infected the zoo.

Yawn

The Yawn is a snake-based B.O.W. that was originally a specimen that escaped from the laboratory and grew to large proportions as a result of exposure to the T-Virus. It got its name from the lab's researchers due to the fact that it appears to be yawning before swallowing its prey. The Yawn's most distinguishing characterisitics is the inconsistency between its width and length. Its movement and attack patterns resembles a regular snake. However, its fangs are coated with a potent venom that can only be treated with an unusually powerful serum found in the mansion's medical storage room. If the wound is not treated in time, the victim will be immobilized and eventually killed by the poison.

During the mansion incident, the members of S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team confronted this creature inside the mansion's attic. Prior to that, Bravo Team operative Richard Aiken was already wounded by the snake and warned the team before the battle. The team managed to fend off the creature. The second and final battle occurred in the mansion's piano lesson room (or in the library in the GameCube remake), however the snake was wounded from the previous battle and was easier to dispose of. Alpha Team was able to neutralize the creature with very little problem.

In the recent Resident Evil: Deadly Silence remake for the Nintendo DS, a second Yawn is discovered in the same room where players earlier battled Plant 42. Unlike the earlier Yawn, this version has improved skin, making it invulnerable to damage except for its soft underbelly and mouth. Players must have quick reflexes with their knives in order to defeat this improved Yawn.

Adder

A small snake that was not mutated extensively by the T-Virus, and that holds none of the characteristics of more enhanced B.O.W.s, such as Yawn. However, it retains poisoning capabilities and some agility in combat, in addition to being hard to hit.

Plant-based creatures

Monster Plant

Formerly a non-sentient plant thriving passively in a fountain inside the Mansion's botany room, the Monster Plant was changed by T-Virus contaminated water supply into a living mutant, transforming its vines into tentacles that prevents intruders from going further. Its more of a nuisance than a threat, since its attacks are non-lethal. And since it's still a plant, it can still be neutralized by adding herbicide into the water pump.

Plant 42

Plant 42 is a large plant infused with the T-Virus, part of the experiment on botanic subjects by Umbrella researcher Henry Sarton. With a massive flower-like nuclei protected by distorted petals and extremely powerful vines, Plant 42 immensely grew to invade the Residence, using its securely protected vines to feed on the T-Virus altered water of the Aqua Ring. As noted in a chemistry report lying around in the Residence, the Plant has grown singularly weak to a particular chemical, codenamed V-Jolt or UMB Nº20. Exposing the roots of the Plant to the toxin dries them up and weakens it considerably. When playing as Jill and concoting the lethal V-Jolt and throwing the vial containing it to the roots, she is trapped by the withering Plant and saved by a flamethrower-wielding Barry. In Chris' case, he cannot fabricate V-Jolt on his own, and is trapped by the vines of the Plant, and Rebecca is forced to prepare the chemical and adminmister it to the roots in order to weaken the Plant enough to allow Chris to battle it.

The name may be a reference to the number 42, of Douglas Adams fame.

Ivy/Poison Ivy

Ivy monsters are the results of Umbrella experiments on plants mostly derivative from the Plant 42 experiment, appearing in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil Survivor. They are bipedal, green plants with vine-like arms and a large orange flower for a "head." Their main method of attack is a whip of their arms. They can also attack at range by spitting an acidic substance. If players get too close, the plant will grab them with their vines and dump acid over their bodies. This is their most dangerous attack, so these monsters should be engaged from afar to avoid it. In some cases, the monster may appear to be dead, but will still whip players who walk too closely to the fallen creature. Being plants, the most effective weapon against them is fire.

Darker green versions of Ivy, the Poison Ivies, will appear as the player character moves deeper into the lab in case a chemical named P-Epsilon is released into the laboratory, which is noted to destroy several enemies, while the Ivies find substenance and an added poison effect by being exposed to it. They are similar to the earlier version in all aspects, excepting the addition of a poison effect to their acid spitting attacks.

Tentacle

A group of large, mutated plant vines (possibly created through the use of the T-Veronica virus) which extend throughout the Umbrella Corporation's Antarctic base, and are controlled by Alexia Ashford. The tentacles possess great speed and strength, being fast enough to catch up to Steve Burnside and Claire Redfield's fleeing snowmobile, and strong enough to deliver a devastating blow to Steve's mutant form. The precise origin of the tentacles (whether each is an independent organism, or merely extensions of a single organism) is unknown.

Ivy Plant

Long green ivy that usually extends from the base of a flower box in the Terrarium Dome located inside the Raccoon City Zoo during the "Wild Things" scenario or from a low crack in the wall at the abandoned hospital during the "Flashback" scenario. These sentient green vines prefer to grow in darkened corners, making them difficult to spot. This is the idea, since the Ivy Plant hopes to snag an unwary passerby's leg before he or she even knows what is happening. To get through without suffering damage, attack the Ivy Plant until it recoils. The plant will eventually grow back unless it is destroyed by using a special solvent found throughout the hospital.

Evil Shade

Large orange bulbs that grow on vines, found entagled in and around the hospital in the Arklay Mountains during the "Flashback" scenario. They are stationary and emit an easily avoided poisonous cloud in bursts. They can be attacked, causing them to wither, allowing to run past, but they will grow back unless they are destroyed by a special solvent found throughout the hospital.

Huge Plant (Dorothy)

An ordinary plant in the Arklay Hospital that became infected with the virus and began to mutate. The Huge Plant is encountered during the "Flashback" scenario. It attacked Al, the hospital director, and devoured the corpse of his wife, Dorothy. The plant grew whenever it consumed living flesh, and has grown to a monstrous size, extending its vines throughout the entire building. The plant is impervious to damage until its core is exposed, which can be done by injecting a certain three vines with a special solvent. Like Plant 42 in the first RE game, the plant does not move, but causes chunks of the ceiling to fall down and strike characters.

Drainer

A hanging plant bulb that appears to grow from the giant plant located in the Arklay Forest Hospital during the "Flashback" scenario. They extend a tendril down which will wrap around the character and pull it up into the bulb, where the plant attempts to consume them.

Leech-based creatures

Mimicry Marcus

Leeches spawned by the original Queen Leech James Marcus produced, merged with the T-Virus are increasingly aggressive. They also seem to possess a collective intelligence, and often seem to act as a single entity. When a large enough brood of leeches come together, they assemble into a humanoid form, named Mimicry Marcus due to its tendency to secrete an adhesive fluid in the shape of James Marcus. Its arms and limbs can extend to strike at targets at a long distance away. If it can manage to grab a hold of a victim it will soak it with an acidic secretion. It is so resilient that it will survive even after having its head, torso, and arms completely blown away. In doing so, it will swell to an enormous size, back the character into a corner, and explode causing a phenomenal amount of damage. The Mimicry Marcus is also very susceptible to fire and, rather than exploding, it will simply dissolve and separate into dying leeches if attacked with a flame or high temperature-based weapon like a Molotov cocktail or napalm grenade.

Queen Leech

This Resident Evil 0 final boss was basically a giant humanoid mound of sentient leeches. It had control over all other leeches in the Training Facility. In its first form, it attacks by hitting, grabbing, or throwing a character. After enough damage is given it mutates slightly, giving it more attack power and defense. After enough damage it is rendered unconscious and gives up the silver and gold keys that open the blast doors covering the emergency exit shaft. The queen leech has a second form in which it loses most of its human form to become a massive green creature with multiple tentacles and a massive flower-like organ in its back, which continually secretes acid. In that form, it has two main attacks, in which it rams the player character and spews acid from its flower-like organ. It is also invulnerable to all weapons and can only be killed by opening the four emergency helipad shutters to let in sunlight, whose ultraviolet radiation passes through its cells with little or no effort, burning them with a high degree of proficiency, making it highly unsuitable for general use as a biological weapon. Upon the sunlight consuming its body, it was terminated by Billy Coen.

Leech Man

A Leech Man is created when a massive amount of leeches in Raccoon Hospital (not related to the leeches spawned by the reborn James Marcus) attach themselves to a dead human. The leeches take control over the host and control it like a puppet, chasing and feeding on any living humans or blood supplies to gain sustenance. It can move freely between any room by using the ventilation shafts on the ceiling in rooms of the hospital to find blood, so it is advised not to stay in any one room for more than 30 seconds unless necessary. Leech Men automatically attack player characters that are bleeding, regardless of how far away they are.

The leeches that cover the Leech Man allow him to be invulnerable to gunfire, meaning that if he is shot or tackled he will merely be stunned. The Leech Man is most susceptible to very high heat as found in the high/low temperature experiment laboratory in the basement of the hospital. The Leech man may be destroyed by luring him into the temperature lab by spilling a blood pack and subsequently heating the laboratory up to over 212º F.

After the defeat of the Leech Man using the Fixed Temperature Experiment Room, if any of the player characters teammates are dead or have died during the scenario, another Leech Man will be created, and since the device of the fixed experiment is broken from the first Leech Man, this new Leech Man is unable to be eliminated and should be avoided as much as possible.

Leech

There are two kind of infected leeches through the Resident Evil storylines. The first variant is the one spawned by the Queen Leech, the reborn James Marcus, which features a notable increase in aggressiveness and size, in addition to a strong communal hive mentality and the capability to bind together to form the Mimicry Marcus enemy. These leeches, in fact, are infected with the Progenitor Virus and should not be confused with the other kind.

The second kind, conversely, is featured in Resident Evil: Outbreak, in the "The Hive" scenario. These leeches are far more dependant on blood, are smaller, infested with the T-Virus, and are unable to bind themselves in the same manner as the REØ leeches. Yet, when attacking a person in one of the rooms of the Raccoon Hospital, they inflict Bleeding stats, and can be fooled with transfusion bloodpacks. In response to their inability to become a single, communal creature, they can attack en masse a person and cover him or her with sheer numbers, transforming him or her into the infamous Resident Evil: Outbreak Leech Man.

Giant Leech

This enemy is an oversized Giant Leech in the underpass entrance of the Raccoon City Hospital during the "The Hive" scenario. Apparently the Giant Leech lived in the underpass entrance of the hospital for years and grew to a huge size and created an increasingly alarming amount of offspring. The Giant Leech will attack anyone that it encounters, often in a completely reckless, relentless fashion, moving by sliding its humungous body along the ground in the water. When near its victim, the Giant Leech will slam its body up and down to hit its opponent. Unlike other leeches, the Giant Leech doesn't have an excessive tendency to pursue blood. The Giant Leech can spray acid from its mouth, or hit the character with a tentacle from its mouth. It is possible to hit valves above it to damage it or hit a gas tank to cause explosive damage to it. After it is dead the underground passage is cleared and the characters are allowed to leave the hospital via the sewers.

Other

Nyx

The Nyx Bio-Organic Weapon was a prototype BOW stored in Raccoon City. After the Raccoon City Outbreak reached critical levels, Umbrella began pulling its resources out in preparation for Mission Code XX. A certain Rodriguez tried to smuggle Nyx out of Raccoon for sale to the U.S., but the helicopter that was intended to transport Nyx out of the city was attacked by an Umbrella executive with a Stinger missile. While the pilot managed to dodge the shot, the sealed capsule containing the Nyx organism fell to an overpass.

Nyx, freed from its restraints, displayed its truly frightening powers by attacking a group of U.B.C.S. and a while later the T-0400TP, absorbing them into its own gelatinous body, which featured an immense purple core. Additionally, being nothing more than a gelatinous organism, it was immensely resilient and exhibited great strength. It attacked the group by spewing chunks of its own body at them, which could knock down anyone in their path causing minor damage, and also through several tentacles all around it´s body.

Its most memorable method of attack, though, is its (almost) instant-death move, where it slams its larger right arm (composed of most of a UBCS Squad) down on its intented victim, pinning him/her on the ground and then proceeds to absorb the unlucky target into its body, instantly killing him by causing the virus gauge to rise to 100% very, very fast. The only way to escape this is to either struggle out of the grasp by smashing all the buttons on the controller, or having the rest of the team kill the Nyx before the victim is wiped out by the gauge.

Ultimately, it was felled by a group of survivors, who detonated the charge inside the corpse of the Tyrant, bringing the Nyx to its knees and rendering it vulnerable.
