Kaplan is a member of One's commando team. As the group's computer expert, Kaplan was directly responsible for turning the malignant supercomputer off. He was eventually killed by the Licker aboard the train. In the novelization (where his first name is given as
Bart instead of Chad), Kaplan is revealed as being former FBI agent who'd been recruited into Umbrella by One (an offer he instantly accepted since he'd get to do field work as a member of the team. He was played in the film by
Martin Crewes.

A member of One's commando team. J.D. was close friends with Rain Ocampo. He was pulled into a corridor containing roughly fifty zombies and killed. After becoming infected with the T-Virus, J.D. awoke as one of the living dead himself and was shot by Rain in the utility tunnels running under the Hive. In the novelization, his last name is given as
Hawkins. He was played in the film by Pasquale Aleardi.

James P. Shade is the leader of the Umbrella commando team sent into the Hive which consisted of himself, Rain Ocampo, Chad Kaplan, J.D. Salinas, and three others. Their mission was to shut down the Red Queen and discover how and why the T-Virus got loose inside the facility. He died inside the Red Queen's entrance corridor when a gridded laser passed through his body, cutting him up into little cubes. In the novelization of the film by
Keith R.A. DeCandido, it is revealed that One's real name is unknown, and that the only member of his team who knew his real name was Kaplan. He was also, according to the novel, a longtime friend and confidant of Major Cain. He was played in the film by
Colin Salmon.
