Aparoid Homeworld
The Aparoid Homeworld is a planet where the Aparoid Queen, the source of all the Aparoids, lives. At the end of , the planet is destroyed along with the Aparoid Queen by a special self destruct program created by Beltino Toad. The Aparoid Homeworld is not in the Lylat System.Aquas
Aquas was once inhabited by a strange race of life forms unknown to Lylatian scientists. The planet was invaded by Bacoon and his legions of exploding starfish. The starfish melted the ice caps of Aquas and flooded the planet, drowning its inhabitants and leaving the planet to be taken over by Bacoon. In Star Fox 64, Fox McCloud uses the Blue Marine to find and destroy Bacoon, whom Andross had turned into a bio-weapon. Aquas has only been in Star Fox 64, but it may be in Star Fox Command.
Area 6
Area 6 was part of a ring of Venom air defense zones encircling the planet. It is where most of Andross's armada was located in Star Fox 64. Its name comes from the fact that it is the sixth area the player visits in the game, and it is similar to the Space Armada level in Star Fox, which, because its location within the Lylat System was never described, is not in this list.Asteroid Belt
See Meteo.Black Hole
The Black Hole in Star Fox was caused by the Gravity Bomb that was newly developed by Andross. Fox's father, whose name was James McCloud in the story, volunteered to deliver it to the Asteroid Belt for testing. He went alone, not knowing the risks Andross had built into the bomb. The bomb detonated at critical velocity according to Andross' design and James, his ship, and half of the Asteroid Belt were sucked into a newly collapsed Black Hole. Andross was exiled to Venom as a result of the Black Hole Incident. However, for reasons unknown, James did not die in the process. The Time-Slip Theory says that Gravity can be used to make a Four-Dimensional Warp so the Black Hole acts as a warp field for ships that are strong enough to survive its treacherous gravity pull and as a Spaceship Graveyard for anything else not strong enough to survive the black hole. As a result, James wound up at the far side of the galaxy in another dimension. He made contact with the unknown lifeforms on the far side of the galaxy and helped them to understand his universe but has become a part of their dimension and can no longer go back. The "Space Whale" that comes from the Black Hole to help Team Star Fox is actually a Transdimensional Manifestation of a starship from the far side of the galaxy. On board the ship is Fox's father, James McCloud. The whale appears in game in the Sector Y level if the player avoids shooting all the blue sting rays. Its existence is explained only in the Star Fox comic that ran in Nintendo Power in 1992.Bolse
Bolse was Venom's defense satellite, an enormous rectangular space station with a platform-like structure near its midsection. Despite its powerful shield generators, large numbers of defence turrets and its on-board fighter compliment, it was destroyed by the Star Fox team after Fox destroyed its core. If one failed to defeat the Star Wolf team on Fortuna, or if one bypassed Fortuna entirely, they would assault the Star Fox team while they attempted to annihilate the core. Bolse has only been in Star Fox 64. The most likely reason it has never returned is because the Star Fox team destroyed it.In the Japanese version of Star Fox 64, Bolse is named Volus.
Cerinia
Cerinia is the home planet of Krystal; all the planet's inhabitants, including Krystal's parents, were killed. It is implied that the planet itself was destroyed as well; however, very little is known about Cerinia, other than that it was not part of the Lylat System. None of the Star Fox games to date have gone into further detail; Cerinia was mentioned briefly in Star Fox Adventures only.Corneria
Corneria is the fourth planet in the Lylat System and is known as the "Bread Basket" of the System. Corneria is very similar to Earth, in that it has a blue sky, large oceans, and landmasses. When Andross' forces attacked the Cornerian military was insufficient to oppose him and General Pepper hired the Star Fox team to help defend Corneria.
In Star Fox: Assault, a large scale invasion by the Aparoids partially destroyed the capital city of Corneria.
Corneria also comes under attack again in Star Fox Command by the Anglors, though the extent of the attack and wether it's limited to the city or the entire planet is not known.
Eladard
The planet Eladard was to be featured in the cancelled Star Fox 2 game for the SNES. It was to have been an Industrial Center covered with numerous factories and cities.Fichina / Ficcina
Ficcina was the Japanese name for the planet mistakenly called Fortuna in the English translation of Star Fox 64. The Star Wolf team made their first appearance on this planet, an icy and barren world with a single large installation visible in the centre of the area the Star Fox team fought in.In Star Fox: Assault, the planet's name is translated as Fichina, and it is correctly identified as a separate planet from Fortuna. The planet appears the same as in Star Fox 64, and is said to be locked in an eternal Ice Age. Cornerian scientists discovered a way to control Fichina's climate and constructed a Climate Control Center, maintained by the Corneria Defense Forces, that makes the planet inhabitable.
The s infect the climate control system and disable it with the help of Pigma Dengar. When Fox McCloud reactivates the center, the aparoid infested security system attacks him. Falco Lombardi rescues Fox from the center. Pigma then arrives and causes an Aparoid infection of a generator associated with the center. Fox destroys the newly created Aparoid boss, saving the center from destruction.
Fortuna
Fortuna is called the "dinosaur planet" in the original Star Fox, although it is unrelated to the Dinosaur Planet in the later games. It is a green planet full of many different, and giant, lifeforms. Andross' plans with Fortuna were to gain control of the creatures and use them as living weapons. In Star Fox 64, due to a translation mix-up, Fichina was renamed Fortuna for the American version of the game. Fichina is the planet's name in the Japanese version, while Fortuna isn't in the game.
Fichina's name was translated correctly for Star Fox: Assault, and Fortuna is a separate planet. The Fortuna in Star Fox: Assault resembles its counterpart in the SNES Star Fox game.
Katina
Katina, is a barren planet except for a number of Cornerian bases and some strange plant life. The surface is mostly composed of brown soil.
In Star Fox 64, the Katina mission is a homage to the last battle scene in the movie Independence Day. The name of Fox's friend, "Bill Grey," is also derived from William Grey, the General in Independence Day. As with the movie, Bill's fighter squadron and the Star Fox team are menaced by an enormous alien mothership armed with dozens of fighters and a powerful laser weapon.
In the Japanese version of Star Fox 64, Katina is named Katarina.
Later in Star Fox: Assault, Katina is revisited when the Star Fox team receive a distress signal from the surface. Upon landing however, Fox is ambushed by Aparoids and must fight them off. Pigma Dengar then appears at the end of the level and steals the core memory from the defeated boss.
The Outpost also appears as a multiplayer stage, and is notorious for snipers.
Macbeth
Macbeth first appeared in the original Star Fox, and was said to be unique in that the planet was mainly hollow, after a geological occurrence that shrunk the planet's core. Andross then used the planet's interior as a munitions dump.In Star Fox 64, the Macbeth stage is centred around a gigantic train carrying supplies to a distant base; it is one of two areas where the Landmaster tank is used instead of the Arwing. It is unclear if the planet is still hollow; it is certainly very different in appearance to the original, with no magma visible at the surface and a cloudly blue sky.
In the cancelled Star Fox 2 Macbeth is a superheated planet completely covered in bubbling magma.
Meteo
Meteo is an asteroid belt that surrounds the planet Corneria. It was featured originally in Star Fox, where it appeared to form a natural barrier to Andross' invasion fleet; Andross deployed two 'Rock Crushers' and a 'Blade Barrier' to clear a path through it. Andross' fleet is faced directly afterward on the easy mission path.In Star Fox 64 the Asteroid Belt is very similar, with a craft much like the 'Blade Barrier' awaiting at the end of the field.
In Star Fox: Assault, Pigma hides from the Star Fox team in an asteroid belt in the Lylat system; whether this is the same place as the field near Corneria or a second asteroid belt elsewhere in the system is never made clear.
Meteor
The Battle Base Meteor (to give its full name) was only featured in Star Fox and was an artificial asteroid created with the plan to build an amusement park on it called "Meteor Land." Andross captured it and turned it into a base.Orbital Gate
The Orbital Gate (also called the Beltino Orbital Gate) is a hi-tech space station floating in Corneria's orbit used for quick warping from Corneria to another known location. It was used by the Star Fox team to transport to the Aparoid Homeworld in . The Orbital Gate was under attack by large amounts of Aparoid fighters, and then like in Sector Z, Aparoid missles were targeted at the gate.
Out of This Dimension
A bonus area in the original game, Out of This Dimension is a somewhat surreal area of space populated by strange sheets that fold themselves into paper planes and origami creatures. The boss is a giant Slot machine, and the level music is When The Saints Go Marching In. This area is probably not a 'serious' part of the Lylat System, and has not reappeared in any other game.Since it is an easter egg of sorts and not a "genuine" level; Out of This Dimension cannot be completed.
Papetoon
Papetoon is only featured in the Nintendo Power Star Fox comic and thus is not considered to be an official location of the Star Fox universe. It is the location of team Star Fox's hideout, which they refer to as their "den". It is also said that Fox saved the lives of many Papetoon inhabitants.Sargasso Space Zone
The Sargasso Space Zone is an area in Star Fox: Assault that was a very popular hideout for criminals, the focal point of which was a dilapidated space colony surrounded by asteroids. The leader of the criminals there was Wolf O'Donnell, whom they referred to as "Lord O'Donnel".Sauria (Dinosaur Planet)
Sauria, previously known as Dinosaur Planet, is a planet inhabited by dinosaurs and is the setting for Star Fox Adventures. Fox comes to Dinosaur Planet to prevent it from blowing up and to save Krystal. Fox also meets Prince Tricky there.
In Star Fox: Assault, it comes under attack by the , who kill many of the dinosaurs there that try to fight back. On this second visit to Sauria, Fox reunites with Prince Tricky, who is now an adult.
Sector X
In Star Fox, this was the designation for an area in orbit around Corneria where a base would be built to assist with Andross' occupation of the planet. A section of the asteroid belt had been cleared, and filled with the disassembled components of the base.In Star Fox 64, this area is a nebula that forms a giant X; this is where Andross had hidden his secret weapon. The base here is oddly abandoned and partially destroyed, with only automated defences remaining; these include a formidable automated 'interceptor system,' however.
Sector Y
In Star Fox, Sector Y is home to giant aquatic lifeforms which have adapted to the harsh vacuum of space. The most noteworthy are the Stellar Stingrays. They are gentle by nature but when agitated, they can be fatally dangerous. Andross experimented on these stingrays and implanted remote controllers which cause the stingrays to attack the Star Fox team when they enter the sector, as noted in the comic series that ran in Nintendo Power. Andross is also harvesting hydrogen from the nebula using a large device called Plasma Hydra. In Star Fox 64, this area is a nebula that forms a giant letter Y, and is the site of a ferocious battle between Cornerian and Venomian fleets.
Sector Z
In Star Fox, this was the designation for an area in orbit of Macbeth where Andross intended to built a supply base to supplement his stores in the planet's core. In order to keep the construction a secret from the Cornerians, a cloaking field was set up which hid most of the construction materials. This had the side-effect of making the area extremely dangerous to navigate. In Star Fox 64, this area is a nebula that forms a giant Z. It is part of Venom's air defense zone and is covered by a battery of extremely powerful long-ranged missiles. The Great Fox itself comes under attack from these missiles during the stage.
Sector Z was featured as a stage in the Nintendo 64 game Super Smash Bros. The characters would fight atop the Great Fox while Arwings flew in from time to time and could be used as platforms, but the Arwings would almost always barrel-roll to shake them off after being ridden for a short period of time. As an added danger, they also shot lasers that could seriously damage combatants.
Solar
Solar appears to be the sun of the Lylat System. In Star Fox 64, it appears to be a red dwarf star significantly smaller than the planet Venom, though it seems likely the map of the Lylat System in Star Fox 64 does not depict the planets to scale against each other. In screenshots released for the upcoming DS game Star Fox Command, Solar appears more like a Class F or G star, rather than a Class M red dwarf. In Star Fox 64, Andross developed a bio-weapon on the star.In the cancelled Star Fox 2, Andross' base is located above the surface of the Sun. It is possible it is above Solar.
While the Arwing is able to handle temperatures of '9,000 degrees' according to Slippy, it seems the surface of Solar is close enough to this threshold to damage an Arwing over time. As a result, Star Fox's missions on Solar are treacherous.
Titania
Titania is a harsh desert world. Millions of years ago, it was home to an advanced civilization known as the Goras. However, when a large meteorite struck the planet, the Goras were wiped out. The beautiful planet was transformed into the sandy wasteland and the dust ejected into space formed its rings. In the original Star Fox is a barren planet fitted with a Weather-Control Unit. If deactivated, it would cause the Titanian climate to turn into an eternal blizzard of snow. Strangely enough, Titania in the Star Fox comic is not a desert world but a frozen world instead, possibly showing the reason why a Weather-Control Unit was needed.
Titania was planned to appear in the cancelled Star Fox 2; in the beta version, it was called Taitania.
In Star Fox 64, Titania is one of the two missions played with the Landmaster tank. Fox deploys his team to rescue Slippy after he crashes; on the surface, he discovers that the seemingly barren planet is actually teeming with robotic lifeforms and enemy fighters all belonging to Andross. When the team finally finds Slippy, he is being held captive by Goras, a huge creature vaguely reminiscent of the first game's Fortuna boss, Monarch Dodora.
Titania also makes an appearance in Star Fox: Assault as a multiplayer stage. It is larger than any other multiplayer-only map, causing some to speculate it may once have been intended to be a single-player mission.
Like Fichina, it also has a climate control system.
Venom
Venom is Andross's base of operations in Star Fox and Star Fox 64. The planet gives off a green glow from space. In both Star Fox and Star Fox 64, Venom is the last stage the player visits.
In Star Fox, it was known as the "Evergreen Planet" since the majority of the surface is covered in flora. Venom is to a race of lizards who are technologically lacking in space travel or advanced weaponry. Prior to the events of the game, Andross discovered the ruins of a lost civilization on the planet, learning the secrets left behind in various records. Using the knowledge he acquired, he built a Telekinetic Amplifier, brainwashing the Venomian Lizards, which he promptly enslaved. With the lizards at his command, he transformed Venom into a military base, deploying his newly drafted Venomian Army of Imperial Lizards to invade Corneria. Although they serve Andross, the Venomian Lizards inwardly hope that the forces of Corneria emerge victorioius and liberate the Lylat System. It is worth noting this does not appear in the game itself, however.
In Star Fox Venom itself is divided into orbit and surface stages, during which the player either battles a shapeshifting machine called Phantron in two forms, a massive machine called Metal Smasher and a ground vehicle called Galactic Rider, or a gigantic battleship that splits into three called Great Commander in three forms, depending on the difficulty level.
In Star Fox 64, General Pepper sends Andross into exile on the now inhospitable surface of Venom, where he then amasses a large army, launching an attack on the Lylat System. In this game, there are two possible routes of attack against Venom, through the corridor at Area 6 and by destroying the space station Bolse; the player must clear one or the other in order to reach the planet and confront Andross. Depending on the path taken to reach Venom, they may also have a final confrontation with the Star Wolf team.
Venom also appears as a stage in the Nintendo GameCube game Super Smash Bros. Melee.
There is also some controversy as to what the adjective should be that denotes something being native to the Planet Venom. Some use the word "Venomian" while others prefer to use the word "Venomese".
In the cancelled Star Fox 2 Venom appears as a standard "Enemy Base" Level, however, it has the appearance of a lush, green forest as in Star Fox as opposed to its ruined 64 version.
In the upcoming Star Fox Command, the main villians of the game come from Venom, who take over Andross' old base.
Warp 1
Warp 1 is a secret level in Star Fox 64 and is not visible on the map. In fact, it's only an alternate ending to Meteo. Instead of a space background, it has swirling pastel colors, and instead of battle music it has an array of different sounds. The obstacles are mostly spinning white boxes and cubes, but here and there you find asteroids. The player's only opponents are staticy ships that look almost like blank TV screens excluding their shape. As the characters move in Warp 1 their ships leaves multiple-colored shadows behind it. Star Fox gets there by flying through all the warp rings at the end of the Asteroid Belt.Warp 2
Warp 2 is the same as Warp 1 but harder, with no asteroids, with giant X and Z shaped girders. The player gets there by shooting all the gates open in Sector X.Zoness
Zoness is a main level in Star Fox 64. It is also featured in Star Fox: Assault as a multiplayer stage.Zoness was the beautiful aquatic vacation world of the Lylat System until Andross polluted it. The result twisted the planet's atmosphere and turned its indigenous creatures into hideous monsters. Zoness, like Aquas, is nearly covered with ocean. However, it contains some small islands on the surface.
In Star Fox 64, Andross has facilities on the planet as well as numerous spotlights to prevent any sneak attack against him. The player can, however, execute a successful sneak attack on the planet by destroying all the searchlights. The sea itself is covered in platforms and massive, corroded tanker ships, and is a sickly green.
In Star Fox: Assault the Zoness Sea Base is a dark, stormy area that appears to have recovered from the 64 pollution. This is also shown in the Corneria level, on a billboard proclaiming "Zoness Water Quality Environmental Conference".
Interestingly, in early footage of the level from the Shoshinkai software exhibition (included on a promotional video in the first issue of N64 Magazine), Zoness had a clean ocean and a clear blue sky.
