- Albany County, Wyoming: Albany is named for Albany, New York.
- Big Horn County, Wyoming: Big Horn is named for the bighorn sheep in the area.
- Campbell County, Wyoming: Campbell is named for John Archibald Campbell, a governor of the Wyoming Territory and associate justice of the United States Supreme Court and Robert Campbell, an explorer of the area.
- Carbon County, Wyoming: Carbon is named for the coal deposits found within the county.
- Converse County, Wyoming: Converse is named for A.R. Converse, a banker and rancher from Cheyenne, Wyoming.
- Crook County, Wyoming: Crook is named for General George Crook.
- Fremont County: Fremont is named for explorer and U.S. Senator John C. Frémont.
- Goshen County: Goshen is named for the Land of Goshen, a Biblical paradise.
- Hot Springs County: Named for the hot springs at Thermopolis within the county borders.
- Johnson County: Johnson is named for E.P. Johnson, a lawyer from Cheyenne, Wyoming.
