List of minor characters in the Ash Crimson Saga
Encyclopedia : L : LI : LIS : List of minor characters in the Ash Crimson Saga
This is a list of characters from the King of Fighters series that play more minor roles in the story or lack sufficient information, and so are listed collectively here.
Adelheid Bernstein
Adelheid Bernstein (Adel for short) is a character from The King of Fighters 2003 and XI.
History
Adelheid and his sister Rose reside on an airship called "Sky Noah".
Unlike his father Rugal Bernstein, he is an honourable fighter, but has many techniques from Rugal's arsenal, and even wears battle clothes which are similar to Rugal's, except that they are dark-green from top to bottom. As of KOF XI, Adelheid decides to go it out alone, but it is unknown whether or not he will choose a righteous path, or follow in his father's dark footsteps.
Trivia
- There is overwhelming evidence that he and his sister Rose are the children of Rugal Bernstein. SNK even jokes about his obvious heritage on their tenth anniversary website, saying "By the way, the father of Adelheid is unknown, isn't he? (Laugh)"
- He is not playable in KOF 2003 without altering the game's dip switches; as a result, he has no personal ending. (However he is unlockable in the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions of the game.)
- In spite of an effeminate name (Adelheid is an old German girl's given name, often shortened to Heidi) and feminine appearance, Adelheid is, in the final game, male. (He was a female in the early versions.)
- His background music in KOF 2003 begins with a fragment of Chopin's Revolutionary Etude played by his sister, Rose. A testimony to how the Japanese adore his music.
- His theme song, aside from Revolutionary Etude, is entitled R2. This is possibly as a connection to his father, as it can be seen as "Rugal 2", or a title connection to Rugal's KOF2K2 theme, The RR. The theme itself is a fast paced techno piece, lead primarily by electronic percussion, distorted guitars, and various computerized tones. It is the more preferred KOF2K3 boss theme by many fans.
- Adel appears in KoF XI as a mid-boss and can be selected as a normal character after being unlocked.
- KoF XI, Adelheid's ending hints that in the next KOF, Rose will be a fighting character. (probably mid-boss)
- Adelheid suffers from SNK Boss Syndrome but not quite as much as his father does.
- In KoF XI, his SNK Boss Syndrome is completely eliminated as he is actually quite an easy mid-boss in comparison. And when being played as, his fragility as a character (out of every other character, he is the most fragile, taking the most damage from any sort of attack) and lack of the "Genocide Cutter" move as a normal special move (only as a DM) makes him a weaker but still a powerful contender.
Bonne Jenet
Bonne Jenet (a.k.a. B. Jenet) is a character from both the Fatal Fury and King of Fighters series.
History
B. Jenet is a piratess and leader of the "Lillien Knights" Pirates. In The King of Fighters XI, she teams up with Tizoc and Gato to form the "Mark of the Wolves" team. She apparently has a crush on Rock Howard.
Trivia
- Bonne made made her second SNK appearance in King of Fighters XI as part of the Mark of the Wolves Team along side Gato & Tizoc.
- She also appears as a secret character in King of Fighters: Maximum Impact 2.
- She was once considered to be going commando because her underwear is never shown when performing moves. In some concept arts, she wears a g-string. SNK could not allow to show g-string on a female character or else this would consider sexual content. What's even stranger is the character Mai Shiranui wears less than Jenet, and wears a thong that is shown in most of her moves. However, now, it's confirmed that she does indeed wear a g-string as shown in her official Maximum Impact 2 character model.
Magaki
History
Like the enigmatic Mukai, nothing is known about the fighter Magaki, save for his hosting of the King of Fighters tournament, and knows Mukai. Like Mukai, he has an unrevealed connection to the Orochi, possibly a Herald of Light/Energy-based attacks. In another similarity to his predacessor, Magaki appears to transform from a normal, human appearance, to a more inhuman one, with colored skin and patterns that appear, and glow, around his body. While Mukai was green, with thin, yellow lines tracing across him, Magaki turns pink, with blue, curled designs.Like Mukai before him, after he was defeated, he stood up, apparently unscathed, and after commenting that perhaps it was more than spirit that was needed to awaken Orochi, made his exit into another realm. However, he was less lucky then Mukai, as he was killed by Shion's spear, which was launched by someone from the other realm and through his body. The next day, however, his body disappeared, so his ultimate fate is unknown. However, in the K' Team's ending, Heidern remarks that his team had obtained Magaki's dead body. If this ending is canon, then Magaki is dead, and his body was gone because the Ikari Warriors had taken it.
Magaki's fighting style seems to revolve around filling the screen with his energy attacks. He can fill the arena with teleporting energy balls, portals through which he can grab the opponent, or his LDM, which is a massive flow of energy that literally covers the screen.
Trivia
- When a character wins via a Leader DM, the player is given a message L.Finish. In Magaki's case, however, finishing a player with his LDM will merely show SS.Finish, which is usually for normal DM.
- At first, Magaki is the only character in KOF XI who doesn't appear to have a DM. In reality, he has the ability to become transparent (and invincible, as well), which is his DM. However, the move does not have the same flash effect that other DMs begin with, and thus many believe it not to be one. His screen-filling LDM is his only super move with said flash.
- All of Magaki's personal information (likes, dislikes, hobbies, etc.) is listed by SNK as "unknown", making him more mysterious than Mukai before him.
- His theme song, An Improvised Concerto, is a symphonic score, performed primarily with pianos and violins. It's also the softest KOF boss theme to date.
Malin
Malin is a video game character in the King of Fighters series.
Malin is an enigmatic young woman who seems to have connections with the King of Fighters 2003 tournament. She subsequently met up and convinced the duo of Athena Asamiya and Hinako Shijou to form the "School Girls team" for the tournament. KOF XI shows that Malin has something of a grudge against Yuri Sakazaki. It is said that she hates how Yuri always says "Yoyucchi" and her comment against Malin's fighting style.
Trivia
- Rumour has it, that her moves never show her underwear because she is wearing a g-string. It would be considered a sexual content, which is not acceptable for most arcade games.
- In all of her attacks she utilizes some sort of weapon. Even when she kicks an opponent, a blade coming out of her shoe can be seen. The only exception is an attack where the opponent is kicked straight into the air.
- Her "claws" seem to indicate by many that they are just her knives cuffed in her fists and doesn't have claws similar to those of Choi Bounge or Vega.
- The KOF 10th site stated that the producers insisted that the players spell her name as Malin and not Marin, in their on comment: This is the humble preference of the supervising designer and a mystery to us all.
Momoko
Momoko is one of the three original characters debuting in the video game King of Fighters XI. There, she belongs to the Psycho Soldiers along with Athena and Kensou.
Trivia
- Her name means peach child in Japanese.
- While most of her attacks are physical, Momoko's strongest attack is a Kamehameha-like super-shot.
- She is the fourth character in the King of Fighters games who can use her buttocks to attack, the first three being Mai Shiranui, Yuri Sakazaki and Athena Asamiya. Unlike Mai, Yuri and Athena, though, Momoko can do this 3 times in a row.
- Many fans of Bao hate Momoko, because they feel she unrightfully replaced him. They often complain that Momoko does not fit well with the team, being primarily a Capoeira user, the members of the Psycho Soldiers team utilized various Chinese Martial Arts. However, they also, ironically, complain of her the same things which others complain of Bao; that she is too young, and is incredibly annoying.
Mukai
Mukai is a video game character in the King of Fighters series. He made his first appearance in Then king of Fighters 2003.
History
The origins of the mysterious Mukai are unknown. He made a prompt appearance in the King of Fighters 2003 tournament seeking strong opponents and to test his strength. It is also strongly implied he is somehow connected to the Orochi bloodline and the wills and goals of Ash Crimson (and hence the three sacred teasures). He is a member (possibly a leader) of a secret organization, known as "Those from the Past". Shadows of his fellow members can be seen resting with Mukai on a giant hand after the game's end.
Before facing him in KOF2K3, Mukai reveals that his organization was behind the new KOF tournament, and his plans did not involve him directly interveining. He states that the Orochi seal has been broken, and the power of the Orochi has entered his master (who this is has yet to be seen, but it can be surmised that this master is the cloaked figure seen after beating him, who is the only one of his group yet to appear). He then engages in combat with the winning team, seeing if they have what it takes to survive in "the new age".
Trivia
- His LDM (leader desperation move) (The Shikai, or Neatherrealm Agony) fills up the entire screen and petrifies opponents who do not block.
- SNK has stated that the key to creating Mukai was to ensure that Mukai was very easy to understand and fight — Mukai is much slower than his predecessors, but his attacks have very high reaction time, has large gauge, and he can combo immediately after a successful screen-filling Shikai land.
- Mukai's appearance was designed with the concept of petrification in mind.
- Mukai's theme song is entitled Styx. It consists of frantic, hypnotic strings and piano, preferring to convey a feeling of crisis and fear, rather than focusing on melody.
- Mukai is the first SNK final boss to not have been truly defeated after he is beaten in battle. After his defeat, he stands up, apparently unscathed, and makes his exit after giving an ominous warning. This trend continued with the next boss, Magaki (who is less fortunate)
- Mukai is one of the few SNK bosses to have an easily exploitable weakness. His normal walking movement is incredibly slow.
- There are at least five people in Mukai's group (They are all seen, albeit shadowed, in the ending of King of Fighters 2003). Four members have been seen; Mukai (far right, kneeling), Magaki (standing behind everyone else, appearing as the tallest), third is Shion (most likely the woman on the far left), and fourth is Botan (the string user, seen next to Mukai, holding her string). The fifth, cloaked figure has yet to be seen, and is presumably the leader of the organization.
- Like his successor, Magaki, Mukai appears to have a more human form, before transforming into the green-skinned form that is most familiar. He appears partially shadowed in this form during the cinema that preceeds the battle with him, wherein he transforms, and begins the battle. In keeping with his stone theme, his human skin seems to be very cracked, bumpy, and callused.
Oswald
Oswald is one of the three original characters debuting in the video game The King of Fighters XI. There, he belongs to the Ash Team along with Ash and Shen Woo.
It is revealed at the end of the tournament that Oswald joins Ash and Shen Woo to obtain drugs named 'Ryu-gan' (roughly translated 'Dragon pills'). Ash accepts him into his team because he knows Shen Woo knows something about those drugs, and he simply doesn't feel sorry when he tells everything to both his team mates, triggering the fight between the two while Ash leaves for his own business.
Trivia
- Oswald's fictional fighting style is allegedly based on a card game called Karnoffel, which is said to trace it roots back to medieval times. Since this "martial art" involves the slashing with and throwing of playing cards, many players have compared Oswald to Gambit, who has appeared in some of Capcom's fighting games. Oswald's Joker LDM is also extremely reminiscent of Gambit's "Royal Flush" Hyper X Combo.
- Oswald's Leader Desperation Move, Joker, does 53 hits (one wall-press and 52 cards). This puts it at third place in the SNK fighting game universe in terms of number of hits - Li Xiangfei's Majinga surpasses it, clocking in at 102 hits (though in King of Fighters 2001, the move is reputed to do 2001 hits on rare occasions), as does May Lee's Disposition Frog in King of Fighters 2002, which does 54 hits, (although only 5 of which actually do damage).
- Oswald's Leader Desperation Move also marks the first time a King of Fighters game has used the "Charge Super" motion: in this case, Back (Hold) Forward, Back, Forward. It is also interesting to note that the LDM is Oswald's only charging move, whereas most Capcom fighting game characters with charging Supers use charging motions for their special moves as well.
- According to the Internet Movie Database, Kong Kuwata, the same person who did Genjuro Kibagami's, Geese Howard's, Duck King's, and Neinhalt Sieger's voices, does Oswald's voice.
Shion
Shion is a video game character in the King of Fighters series and the sub-boss of the The King of Fighters XI game.
History
Shion works under Magaki and moves for the resurrection of the seal-moved Orochi. She uses a form of barehand wushu, a spear, and a rope dart for her moves. She is very eager to accept challenges. She is first shown in the mid-game cinematics after the mid boss fight, showing her talking with Magaki, who warns her of betraying him. Next, she's seen taking a break after turning the finals arena into ruins. After she is beaten, she gets surprised by Magaki who whisks her away to a different dimension. The most likely case is that since she is definitely upset by this, Shion doesn't waste time at all when she finds an opening on Magaki's defense when he's trying to flee via dimensional rift. She kills Magaki by driving her spear right through his heart, killing him quickly, even though she is then trapped in the other dimension.
Trivia
- As of the moment, SNK Playmore hasn't officially stated of Shion's true gender. Judging by her voice actor, Shion sounds like a girl.
- Shion is one of the most fluidly animated character to ever grace the 2D King of Fighters series. This might be due to the fact that Shion uses the forms of Wushu which itself involves a lot of graceful and complicated moves.
- Shion is one of the characters that were made into toy give-aways in SNK Playmore's Year End Party.
