First letter of triplet:
- A = launch from air
- B = capable of being launched from multiple environments
- C = stored in "coffin" (horizontal container), raised to a vertical position and then fueled for launch
- F = shoulder-launched missile weapon
- G - Runway or ground
- H - stored in missile silo, but launched from the surface
- L = launch from missile silo
- M = ground launched, mobile
- P = launch from soft pad (fixed, unprotected surface location)
- R = launch from surface ship
- U = launch from submarine
