List of national parks of Finland
Encyclopedia : L : LI : LIS : List of national parks of Finland
There are 35 national parks in Finland. They are all managed by the Metsähallitus with the exception of the Koli National Park which is managed by the Finnish Forest Research Institute Metla. The national parks cover a total area of 8,150 km². A total of 1,4 million people visited the parks in 2005[link].
On March 22, 2006 two Finnish environmental organisations proposed a new, 27 km² national park to be established in Sipoonkorpi, Southern Finland. [link] The Ministry of the Environment plans to establish a 14.4 km² conservation area there, but according to Minister of the Environment Jan-Erik Enestam, "the establishment of a national park can only be considered after land use in the area has been decided."[link]
