The table below lists the 100 largest cities (or municipalities) in Canada by population, using data from the Canada 2001 census for census subdivisions.[link] Data collection for the 2006 census is underway and some of these rankings will change significantly. Several cities on the list have undergone amalgamations and demergers since the 2001 census.
This list includes only the population within a city's municipal boundaries as defined at the time of the census. Many of the cities are part of a larger Census Metropolitan Area or Census Agglomeration. For their ranking, see the list of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in Canada.
