Lonnie Mack
Encyclopedia : L : LO : LON : Lonnie Mack
-->Lonnie Mack (born Lonnie McIntosh on July 18, 1941 in Harrison, Indiana) is an influential country and blues guitarist and singer who had a career spanning from the early 1960s to the 1990s. He was unusual (and a forerunner) in that he recorded extended rock improvisational guitar instrumentals before the era in which these became common (in other words, before the well-known recordings and performing careers of Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Jeff Beck, the rock groups of the San Francisco Sound, the Doors, Frank Zappa, and other late 1960s stars). Mack performed bass duties on some of the Doors' studio output.
While there were rockabilly influences in his music, perhaps due to his connection with Memphis, there were also rhythm & blues influences (such as the R&B/rock'n'roll music of Chuck Berry).
