Looting (gaming)
Encyclopedia : L : LO : LOO : Looting (gaming)
Looting in a gaming context, specifically in MMOGs, is the process by which a player character obtains items such as in-game currency, spells, equipment or weapons from the corpse of a creature or possibly the corpse of another player in a PVP situation (cf. looting). These looted items will be placed into the player's own inventory. Loot is considered a reward for killing a creature or other player.
Looting may also be referred to in leet speak as lewting.
A term related to looting is "ninja." A ninja, in gaming, may be a person who loots a corpse out of turn or without permission from group or raid members. Many MMOGs have various types of loot distribution systems built into the game which take fairness into account, but other games may have none or allow the group to turn them off. This can mean that anyone still alive after a fight can walk over to a corpse and pick up whatever items or money may be on it. A player who does this when the group hasn't decided what to do with the item(s) on the corpse might be labeled a "ninjalooter" and be accused of "ninjaing" or "ninjalooting." This is not a positive label to have and the player may have problems getting a place in groups and raids at a later time.
