Lord Commander Solar Macharius

In the fictional universe of Warhammer 40,000, Lord Commander Solar Macharius was a famous commander of the Imperial Guard. His conquest was only halted by the refusal of his men to continue. This refusal arose due to the closing border of the psychic protection of the Emperor as they entered into deep space. After the death of Macharius, his empire split up as his generals fought over the land, undoing much of what Macharius had strived to achieve. It is said that when Macharius learned that he would be unable to conquer any more worlds in the name of the Emperor, he fell to his knees and wept.

Macharius is based on Alexander the Great.
Many things and places throughout the Imperium have been named in honor of the commander, most notable the Imperial Naval vessel "Lord Solar Macharius" commanded by Captain Leoten Semper in the Black Library novel "Execution Hour".
