Lost in Space (film)
Encyclopedia : L : LO : LOS : Lost in Space (film)
Lost in Space is a feature-length motion picture, produced by New Line Cinema, and is an adaptation of the 1965-68 CBS television series Lost In Space. The main characters were played by William Hurt, Mimi Rogers, Heather Graham, Matt LeBlanc, Gary Oldman, and Lacey Chabert.
Lavish special effects were incorporated, with a storyline that was similar to the more dramatic early episodes of the TV series and not much like the colorful, fanciful episodes that dominated the TV series' second and third seasons. The film opened at #1; the first new film of the year to do so due to the extraordinary success of Titanic. While the movie was marginally successful, audience reaction was mixed and box office results were insufficient to justify a planned sequel.
The film features cameos by many of the cast from the original series; Mark Goddard, June Lockhart, Marta Kristen and Angela Cartwright all have speaking roles in the film.
