Louis XIV (band)
Encyclopedia : L : LO : LOU : Louis XIV (band)
Louis XIV is a quartet Indie rock group from San Diego, California, formed in April 2003. They were formed from the band Convoy. Their first album, The Best Little Secrets Are Kept, was released in March 2005, following the release of their EP Illegal Tender in January of that year. Their first single was titled "Finding Out True Love Is Blind," and was featured on both the EP and album. Their music features rough, primal rock and evocative lyrics replete with double entendres. The band released their second single off their debut album entitled "God Killed the Queen" in September of 2005.
Controversy
Louis XIV faced controversy for the album art of The Best Little Secrets Are Kept because it featured a naked woman from behind, from the middle of the buttocks up. This album art led to The Best Little Secrets Are Kept being the first album ever to receive a parental advisory warning for content on the album cover. An alternate, "edited" CD was released, without any sign of a naked butt. After that they were home free and released their album.Another instance where the band was involved with controversy was their music being featured as the "lesbian theme" on the Fox television show the O.C. According to producer Josh Shwartz, the writers felt the band's music was a perfect way to frame the relationship of Alex and Marissa in any instance where they were seen kissing each other (taken from the DVD commentary of the episode "Rainy Day Women", Season 2).
