Love in Vain

Love In Vain is a 1937 blues song written by Robert Johnson, and can be found on a number of compilation albums of Johnson's work (most notably on King of the Delta Blues, the album that introduced Johnson to many later musicians), and on its original single (Vocalion 04630).

It has since been covered by many other musicians, most notably by The Rolling Stones on their 1969 album, Let It Bleed. Fans of The Rolling Stones got a little taste of some classic old-time blues, similar to what Led Zeppelin fans heard when they covered Traveling Riverside Blues. It was also covered by Johnson fan Eric Clapton on his 2004 album, Me and Mr. Johnson, along with several other Robert Johnson classics.

It is often noted for its incredibly dreary and depressing lyrics and tone, and extremely sad overall feeling and style, especially on Johnson's version.
