Luba (born Luba Kowalchyk, 1958 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada) is a Canadian music artist. Luba rose to fame in the early 1980s after the release of her first hit "Every Time I See Your Picture I Cry" in 1979. Her debut EP followed, and in 1984 she released her first full-length album titled Secrets and Sins, which spawned the hit single "Let it Go", which hit number one on the Canadian charts. The album earned her a Juno Award in 1985 for Best Female Vocalist.

Her follow up release, Between the Earth and Sky included the single "How Many (Rivers to Cross)". Shortly after the release of Between the Earth and Sky, the bus band was involved in a serious accident, leading Luba to take some time off to reflect on her career. In 1988 she returned with Over 60 Minutes with Luba, a compilation of her best hits of the day. She followed up in 1989 with All or Nothing, which included the hits "Giving Away A Miracle" and "Little Salvation". This would be her last album before stepping out of the spotlight.

While her career was on hiatus Luba's life was in transition due to the loss of several close family members. In 2000, Luba released From the Bitter to the Sweet. While the album won some critical acclaim, Luba was unable to repeat her past successes in sales and radio airplay. Luba ended the year as she was televised on a nationwide program (Canada) titled An Evening With The Stars focussing on both new and old material.

During the 1980's Luba was garnered Canada's finest vocalist and won Juno Award's for "Female Vocalist of the year" in 1985, 1986, and 1987. She is noted as a prodigious talent and has also been rewarded with Casby's, the Felix, and a Black Music Association Award for "Female Entertainer of the Year" being one of the very few non black people to receive this honour. Most recently, her music has been covered on Canadian Idol.
