Lurgan College is a selective age 14-18 grammar school situated in the town of Lurgan, County Armagh, Northern Ireland.
History
The school opened in 1873, originally being situated in a town house in Lurgan town centre. In August of that year a purpose built school building was completed in the outskirts of Lurgan. The original school building is still in use although major alterations and extensions have taken place to expand and modernise the school.Today
The school currently enrolls around 110-120 pupils. Pupils are required to sit their GCSE exmainations in their second year at the school. The school also offers a limited number of places for pupils to return to the school after their second year to sit their AS Level and A2 Level (commonly referred to as A-levels) examinations. The current headmaster of the school is Mr T Robinson, who began his career at the school in September 2005.Famous links
The most famous pupil to attend Lurgan College is CS Lewis' father. Later, a former headmaster of the school tutored CS Lewis himself.Links
