The constituency and its predecessors the Luton East and Luton constituencies have been called a Bellwether constituency; they have voted for the winning party in each election since the 1950 UK general election.
Boundaries
Following their review into parliamentary representation in Bedfordshire and Luton, the Boundary Commission for England made only minor changes to the existing constituencies.
Luton South will be made from electoral wards within the city of Luton, and also one ward from South Bedfordshire district.
- From Luton, the wards of Biscot, Crawley, Dallow, Farley, High Town, Round Green, South, Stopsley, Wigmore
- From South Bedfordshire, the one ward of Caddington, Hyde and Slip End
