Junctions 7 and 8 are actually very close to each other, and both join the same road! (From different directions).

The motorway ends at Junction 43 of the M1, without its own Junction number. The M1 actually branches off from itself here-the main line of the road is the M621. This junction is also restricted-movements are as follows: M1 Northbound-M1 Eastbound. M1 Westbound-M1 Southbound. M1 Northbound-M621 Northbound. M621 Southbound-M1 Southbound. The A61/A639 link Junctions 7/8 of the M621 with Junction 44 of the M1, enabling M1 Westbound-M621 Westbound and M621 Eastbound to M1 Eastbound movements to be made.

Originally the M621 from the current Junction 43 of the M1 to Junction 3 of the M621 was the M1. Both roads terminated at the Dewsbury Road interchange and were not linked. The M1/M621 in their present form were created when the M1-A1 Link Road was built, and this was numbered as the M1.
