MSN-02 Zeong
Encyclopedia : M : MS : MSN : MSN-02 Zeong
A prototype mobile suit developed by the Principality of Zeon at the A Baoa Qu space fortress during the One Year War of the anime Mobile Suit Gundam, the MSN-02 Zeong was built especially for Newtype pilots and was first piloted by the "Red Comet" Char Aznable.
The Zeong was a mobile suit in the fact that it features a roughly humanoid shape. However, it lacked legs, which first surprised its pilot. Although it was only 80% complete, since legs aid in the Active Mass Balance Auto Control or AMBAC System, it was at 100% combat capacity when first used. The Zeong was the first mobile suit to use psycommu system. This let it effectively use its wire-guided, remote-controlled arms, each built with 5-mega particle gun fingers. Two additional beam guns were built into the torso. Lastly, there was a single beam cannon inside the head. Unlike the mobile suits of the time, the Zeong had its cockpit built in the head, which could detach from the body and act as an escape pod for the pilot.
The MSN-02 Zeong was destroyed in battle with the RX-78-2 Gundam, piloted by Amuro Ray, during the final battle of the One Year War, the Battle of A Bao A Qu. Char, however, managed to escape the complete destruction of the Zeong.
Yoshiyuki Tomino originally wanted to call the MSN-02 Zeong as "Zeon Gundam", but it was too long. So he combined the names "Zeon" and "Gundam" calling it the "Zeong".
MSN-02 Perfect Zeong
Although never seen in any series, the Perfect Zeong is an official Mobile Suit Variation.
The Perfect Zeong was the final unit produced under Zeon's MS-16X Bishop Plan. Using the data obtained from the test runs of the MSN-01 High Mobility Psycommu System Zaku Zeon engineers drafted plans for a new mobile suit and constructed the Perfect Zeong. Due to the MSN-02's massive size and the vast amount of energy required to power its multitude of beam weaponry, the Perfect Zeong's fusion reactor is 3.8 times larger than that of a standard mobile suit.
The most notable difference between the MSN-02 Zeong and the Perfect Zeong is the obvious inclusion of legs in the Perfect Zeong. The enormous rocket thrusters mounted beneath the Zeong's skirt armor are actually mounted on the bottoms of the Perfect Zeong's feet in the completed version. A total of three Zeong units were built, one of them (which was only 80% complete) was taken by Zeon ace pilot Char Aznable during the Battle of A Baoa Qu.
