Macy's South
Encyclopedia : M : MA : MAC : Macy's South
Macy's South, with its flagship store at Lenox Square in Atlanta, Georgia, is a division of Federated Department Stores. It has stores in Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. Following Federated's acquisition of May Company, the new division was created February 1, 2006 from the bulk of the old Atlanta-based Macy's Central division, the two Macy's East stores in Louisiana, the Hecht's stores in southern Virgina and North Carolina and the Foley's stores in Lousiana, Oklahoma, and Texas (all but the El Paso stores). By late summer 2006, the Hecht's and Foley's nameplates will be phased out in favor of the nationally known Macy's.
In early 2007, after systems integregations are completed, the stores in Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia and Kentucky will be transferred to the Macy's Midwest division, based in St. Louis, Missouri. Macy's South will also assume the operational control of the Macy's West store at Galleria Dallas, Dallas, Texas at some point and the former Famous-Barr store in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The division should then have approximately 130 stores.
History
The present Macy's South incorporates several historic department store franchises, including Rich's, Davison's, Lazarus, Shillito's (John Shillito Co., Cincinnati, Ohio), Rike's (The Rike-Kumler Co., Dayton, Ohio), Block's (William Block Co., Indianapolis, Indiana), Foley's, Sanger-Harris, Castner Knott, Goldsmith's and Thalhimer's. Please see the related links for the history of each.Current and future locations
