Achievements
According to Guinness Book of World Records ([link]) Madonna is the "most successful female solo artist of all time", selling 120 million albums as of November 2000".As of December 2005, Madonna had 12 multi-platinum albums certified by the RIAA (US), which, in all, had certified her for shipments of 64 million units in USA.
In a 2005 press release, her record label, Warner Bros., reported she had international sales in excess of 200 million albums.
Madonna's The Immaculate Collection is the highest selling, greatest hits album by a female artist in the world and in the U.S., with more than 10 million U.S. sales and 26 million worldwide sales.
Since Madonna's first single release in 1982, she has amassed 36 top ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100, a record that ties her with Elvis Presley for the most top 10 hits of any artist in the Rock era. [link]
She is well-known for her groundbreaking and often controversial music videos, which have garnered her 20 MTV Video Music Awards (including the Video Vanguard Award). [link]
Madonna has five Grammy Awards to her credit [link], as well as a Best Actress (Musical or Comedy) Golden Globe Award for her performance in Evita, though as an actor she is perhaps more infamously remembered for her several Golden Raspberry-"winning" ("Razzie") performances in such critically maligned films as Swept Away and Shanghai Surprise. "Madonna Net Worth"
Madonna is the richest female singer in the world, and one of the richest self-made women in the world ... with an estimated net worth of over $850 million. Her wealth is closer to $850m USD than the reported $665m. Reports about her wealth vary from programme to programme, but once all is considered, including personal wealth, real estate, and her Maverick studios earnings, Madonna just may be a billionaire herself... if not today, then very shortly in time. In 2004 alone, she earned more than $50 million with her Reinvention Tour. Rolling Stone reported that she was worth more then $613 million dollars back in 00, and that was before her Drowned World Tour, Reinvention Tour, and The Confessions Tour. Some reports get their figures about $613 million. "On ABC’s 'Life Of Luxury' which aired on Dec. 13th 00 Madonna was named the richest female artist with a estimated fortune of $613,000,000.
Side businesses and endorsements are another lucrative source of great income for Madonna, and with the star power, and magnitude of an artist of Madonna's caliber its worth to pay millions when you are being advertised by one of the best billboards in the world. Everyone knows that Madonna is the queen of endosement deals. Don't forget to count that along with her MadGuy Films, Boy Toy inc, Webo Girl, Siren Films, Slutco inc, and Maverick films.
Maverick Records is the most successful "vanity label" in music history. While under Madonna's control it generated well over $1 billion for Warner Bros. Records, more money than any other recording artist's record label. She helped bankroll Alanis Morissette and Michelle Branch's careers.
Alvin Hall presenter of World's Most Powerful on BBC News chose Madonna as the World's Most Powerful celebrity followed by Oprah Winfrey.
Madonna is the oldest and only 80s female artist to have a video retired on MTV's TRL (February 2006) with "Hung Up". "Hung Up" spent 11 days at number one on TRL including its 50th showing.
"Sorry" reached the top spot on the United World Chart, ending the fifteen week reign of "Hung Up" on the chart, bumping it to number two. Madonna is the first artist, since the creation of the chart, to have two singles sitting at the top two positions on the chart in one week. Madonna (and Cher) have the track with most weeks spent at No. 1 Hung Up and Believe. Madonna has the track with most points in a week (Hung Up) on the United World Chart. [link]
Billboard are reporting that for only the second time in history, one artist is #1 on all four of Billboard's dance charts. The single is of course Sorry, which is #1 on the Club Play, Dance Singles Sales and Dance Radio Airplay surveys while Confessions On A Dance Floor rules the Top Electronic Albums list. The only other time this happened was the week of December 03 2005, when Madonna's Hung Up was in charge on the three dance singles charts and 'Confessions On A Dance Floor' was #1 on the Electronic chart.
