Magic Kingdom (theme)
Encyclopedia : M : MA : MAG : Magic Kingdom (theme)
Magic Kingdom is the concept the five amusement parks designed by The Walt Disney Company are themed on. The five Magic Kingdom parks are:
Hallmarks
- Each Magic Kingdom park has five main lands: Main Street, U.S.A., Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. A land may be differently named from the general convention at one of the parks, for example Tomorrowland is named Discoveryland at Disneyland Paris, but it still operates on the same theme.
- Each Magic Kingdom park has a fairytale-inspired castle structure at the centre, all named after a Disney princess: Sleeping Beauty Castle sits at Disneyland, Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland, whereas Cinderella Castle sits at the Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disneyland.
- Each park is circled by a railroad, with 1890s American steam engine trains. This tradition began at Disneyland where Walt Disney, in outlining his original proposal for the project, stated "I just want it to look like nothing else in the world. And it should be surrounded by a train."
Exceptions
- Frontierland is absent at Hong Kong Disneyland. The reason stated by Disney is that it is irrelevant to Chinese guests, as the American Wild West is central to the theme. It is possible the land will be added in future park expansions.
- The railroad at Tokyo Disneyland does not encircle the park and only has one stop.
