Magnification (album)
Encyclopedia : M : MA : MAG : Magnification (album)
Magnification is an album by progressive rock band Yes and was released in 2001. The band's first album of the 2000s - and to date most recent studio recording - Magnification has proven to be one of Yes's most acclaimed later efforts.
Recorded following the departures of both Billy Sherwood and Igor Khoroshev, the remaining members - Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Steve Howe and Alan White - decided to fill the gap left by the lack of keyboards with strings. Harking back to their second album, 1970's Time and a Word, they engaged the services of Larry Groupé to conduct the orchestrations.
Released on September 11, 2001 (and held over for three months in America), Magnification - while not received on the level of Close to the Edge - still had a warm reception from critics and fans. Despite this, the album was not a great commercial success, only reaching #71 in the UK and #186 in the US.
