Malky McCormick is Scotland's best known cartoonist and caricaturist. His popular style of work has entertained millions of readers and viewers for over 30 years.

Biography

Malky was born 1943 in Glasgow beside Hampden Park, Scotland's national football stadium. This imbued in him a sense of the ridiculous at a very early age!

After leaving the commercial art world in 1965, he illustrated comics and magazines for D.C. Thomson in Dundee then became a graphic artist and designer with Scottish Television for 3 years. In 1975, along with pal and fellow banjo player from the Scottish folk music scene, Billy Connolly, he devised and wrote the hugely successful cartoon strip, The Big Yin for the Sunday Mail. At the same time he was a member of an outrageous 5-piece skiffle band, The Vindscreen Vipers playing gigs in Scotland, abroad and on television.

Since then Malky McCormick has contributed to most Scottish and UK national newspapers including The Sun, Daily Record, Daily Express, Sunday Times, Sunday Telegraph, Kilmarnock Standard and New Statesman. His work has illustrated several major national advertising campaigns.

His caricature skill has seen him invited to corporate events in Jamaica, Canada, Croatia, Germany, Romania, Kuwait, India and Russia. For ten years he was resident cartoonist on ITV's networked quiz show, Win, Lose or Draw.

He is a key player in organising the acclaimed National Cartoon Festival held annually in Ayr, Scotland during September, and is a regular after-dinner speaker. His unique stand-up comedy presentation focuses on patter and instant lighting sketches of his audience. Nobody is safe from the satirical pen of McCormick! Be enthralled as a caricature develops "live" and his "victims" are always delighted to receive his original drawing at the end of the show.

Malky has two sons and a daughter. He works and lives with his wife Ann in the Ayrshire village of Waterside, near Kilmarnock.
