"Mambo No. 5" is a famous mambo dance song. A cover version of this song, originally recorded and composed by Pérez Prado in 1952, was released by Lou Bega in 1999, adding lyrics to the original version. It was a smash hit in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia, where it reached #1 in 1999.
In turn, many artists covered variations of Lou Bega's version. It is currently used as the theme for Channel 4's cricket coverage.
Here is a complete list of human names said in Lou Bega's song:
- Angela
- Pamela
- Sandra
- Rita
- Monica
- Erica
- Tina
- Mary
- Jessica
Michael Scott, one of the principal characters in the American version of The Office, has an apparent preoccupation with Bega's rendition: he is shown attempting to sing it in a video of an awards ceremony in "The Dundies" and it makes an appearance as his cellphone ringtone in "The Fire".
