Manfred Mayrhofer

Manfred Mayrhofer (born 26 September 1926 in Linz, Austria) is an Indo-Europeanist specialized on Indo-Iranian languages. Mayrhofer is professor emeritus at the University of Vienna. He is noted for his etymological dictionary of Sanskrit.
Mayrhofer studied Indo-European and Semitic linguistics and philosophy in Graz. From 1963 to 1966 he was professor in Saarbrücken, from 1966 until his retirement in 1988 in Vienna.
