Marie-Galante

Marie-Galante is an island of the Caribbean Sea located in the Guadeloupe archipelago. It is part of the French overseas région and département of Guadeloupe, and is thus a constitutional part of France.
The island of Marie-Galante has a land area of 158 km² (61 sq. miles), and a population of 12,488 inhabitants at the 1999 census (down from 16,341 inhabitants at the 1961 census). The population density in 1999 was 79 inh. per km².
It is divided in three communes:
- Capesterre-de-Marie-Galante (46.19 km² ; 3,559 inhabitants in 1999)
- Grand-Bourg (55.54 km² ; 5,934 inhabitants in 1999)
- Saint-Louis (56.28 km² ; 2,995 inhabitants in 1999)
