Mariefred

Mariefred is a small town in Sweden, with a population of 4,800. The name leads back to the old Catholic monastery "Pax Mariae" - Mary's Peace. Mariefred is situated in Södermanland, close to the larger town of Strängnäs, and belongs to Strängnäs Municipality.

The Royal Gripsholm Castle is located near the town.

Östra Södermanlands Järnväg - Railway museum with one of the finest collections of ancient 600 mm narrow gauge passenger railcars.

Kurt Tucholsky is buried in the cemetery in the town.
