Massachusetts House elections, 2006
Encyclopedia : M : MA : MAS : Massachusetts House elections, 2006
Elections for the Massachusetts House of Representatives will be held on November 7 2006, with all of the 160 seats in the House up for election. Since Representatives are elected for two-year terms,[Constitution of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts], Article LXXXII. those elected will serve from January 2007 until January 2009.
The 2006 Massachusetts Senate election is scheduled for the same date as the House election, as well as Federal and Gubernatorial elections.
Control of the House
The House currently has 139 (87%) Democrats, and 21 (13%) Republicans. The Democrats currently hold a supermajority (>67%) in the House. To take control of the House, Republicans would need to pick up 59 seats. Just to break the supermajority would require a daunting 33-seat turnover.Open Seats
