Mataatua

In Māori tradition, Mataatua was one of the great voyaging canoes by which Polynesians migrated to New Zealand. It was captained by Toroa (or Ruaauru) and brought taro to New Zealand. It landed at Whakatane (Bay of Plenty) (Craig 1989:24).
