Matrix theory (also written M(atrix) theory) is a fundamental formulation of M-theory, in terms of interacting D0-branes (zero-dimensional Dirichlet branes) in infinite momentum frame, proposed by Banks, Fishler, Shenker, and Susskind. See discussion in M-theory.
